I'm doing the "diving method" for more PWPs and so far I have trapped Freya and Flora. I did Freya first. I trapped her in a perfect square of holes and then ran off to the ocean and when I came back she wasn't in the "trap"???? I was confused but I just tried again, but with Flora. Same thing happened, except she ended up all the way at the shoreline when i pulled back in! Has this happened to anyone??

May I ask why are you trapping them..? I do the diving method to get PWPs requested and it works just fine without having to trap them. If youre looking to run into a specific villager just keep note of where they are before diving and they should be nearby when you come back. It always works for me

A lot of people trap them since the villagers can wander off to god knows where and it's easier to keep track of them. That's what I used to do at least.

OP, make sure that they're completely trapped within. Like, holes around every single corner. No room for escape. No hope. No salvation.

that's what i did, which is why i'm like ????

villagers can teleport i'm guessing, because one time skye showed up wherever i went. she was in retail, then the able sisters, and then when i was back in my town she was in her house!

It's just weird because I've done this hundreds of times and nothing like that has ever happened before today.

This has definitely happened to me before! There's nothing wrong with your game or cartridge or anything so don't worry! ^^
I think it has to do with villagers being idle for too long? Mine always decide to teleport when they've been stuck for a long while.
I like to think they get tired of standing for so long because they always take naps when they leave their spots haha!

When I trap villagers I give them a pretty big space, and usually use the river or a building for one side.

Aki I freakin love you LOL

I'm not sure what it is. Might be a distance thing or a time thing. Maybe try giving them a little more wiggle room? Maybe their constant walking towards one corner is letting them port out of their prisons~

And I totes get why OP wants to trap them. I've had animals ask me to grab fruit. I go like two feet away to get fruit, and by the time I'm back, animal's moved across the entire gd map =_=

I've seen them teleport many times, I've never considered it anything other than perfectly normal. The same thing happened on Wild World if memory serves.

when u go swimming for 10 minutes (idk how long) it resets some things, like the opportunity for them to ping you

but it also resets the villager positions i believe...

Hmm did you go inside any buildings/houses and came right out by any chance?

I used to trap my villagers too and go for diving when I needed more PWPs suggested.. sometimes I found them outside of their trap(?) and wondered how they escaped.. then I remembered I went inside the town hall real quick or someone's house xD.. maybe they jump or something when we're not looking >.<

same thing has happened to me, i was so confused aha. i figured its because villagers have little timetables where they get sent to the beach at a certain time, or retail, mainstreet, ect. and they have to teleport if it overlaps with the time they were trapped.

I always trap my villagers to get them to stay in one place, but I remember trapping Ruby, and after I got in the water for 5 minutes, I came back out and somehow she escaped to the other side of the river :/

What I've noticed is that if you trap a villager near the beach (like the cliff of the beach) then somehow they're able to escape down to the beach, I did this with Hamlet several times and he teleported down there each time. :|
