I have two theories. One: I planted them too close to the cliff, but there was at least one space between the saplings and the edge of the cliff. Two: I planted the saplings next to flowers and that killed them. Two saplings on the other side of my town were also planted next to flowers and they died too (all flowers were removed before the saplings died, but not before they were planted).

Any thoughts?

Did you plant cedar saplings on the bottom half of your town?

Yes. I only plant cedar saplings because I don't like regular trees.

I just googled it and that's ridiculous. Why would they only let you plant them up north?

I actually prefer normal trees to cedar trees because they turn pink in April and cedars don't... *-* So due to that I've never really planted any... but that's pretty odd...

Maybe to emulate climate change within your town? Like, the further south you travel, the hotter the temperature gets, and since cedar trees grow in cold environments, you wouldn't find them further south, right?

I honestly have no idea, but this is the only reasonable explanation I can think of, besides "because Nintendo"

If they're cedar saplings, they won't grow anywhere except the northern half of your town, like people have said. Some trees like coconut and banana trees won't grow anywhere but on the beach, too.

I'm not sure if the flowers have to do with it, because I've had saplings die even when I've removed the flowers next to them and if there's space between the sapling and the cliff you should be fine (although I think two spaces rather than one is best).

Other things that can affect saplings are buildings, water, and rocks. If you place them too close to one of those, they won't grow.

There are also "dead spots" where saplings just won't grow. If you've planted a sapling nearby in a similar position and it grew, the dead sapling was on one of those spots. Just try planting it elsewhere.

By the way, I hate the "cedars won't grow on the bottom half of your town" thing. I wanted my whole town to look like it was from a colder climate but now I can't because of that.
