Multiple towns?

How do you manage multiple towns? I understand you just buy a second copy, but what if your dreamie is in your second town and you want him to move to your main, do you buy a new ds or something? How do you trade these things?

to let villagers from one town move into another you need two systems to play on (or ask someone to hold the villager for you but well :I), but if you're just exchanging items you could ask someone to hold items for you. pretty sure that there are a lot of people who would be willing to help :>
