More Emojis in “like” option

Hiii,

I hope im posting this in the correct thread, but i was wondering to see what you guys all though. I personally would like more emojis in the like button such as “” for funny comments ir “” comments i dont like. What you guys think? Do you agree with my extra emojis or you think other emoji options fit better ? Let me know! Super curious

I think staff said at some point that they wouldn't add a laughing emoji to the like system because it has the potential of getting abused. Rather than showing you're laughing with the post, it can be used to bully them. In a perfect world where something like that doesn't get abused, it would have been nice. Then I would actually know if any of my joke posts are actually funny or are just cringe.

I'd love a broken heart or sad face to indicate that we're sympathetic/empathetic to people rather than a like button which could possibly be misconstrued :x

The idea is interesting, but I’d be worried about it being abused like @NefariousKing mentioned. I have severe anxiety and asperger’s and cannot tell when people using an emote or even in words are being sincere or sarcastic. I already worry more than I want to (i cannot control my anxiety well) about my posts offending or annoying people. :/

I can see a disagree emote being very unlikely as well, as that can also be used to gang up on someone. Best way to go about a comment you don't like is to respectfully comment your disagreement to the opinion or to not interact with it at all.

I do get where you're coming from, but nowadays (especially on the internet) these things can be used in a way that they weren't intended in order to be hurtful to others. I just want the broken heart or sad face, personally, but that's just me

Yep! In this thread here. The same reasoning would apply to sad reacts, dislike reacts, and angry reacts.

I guess I'll just have to keep pretending that some of the things I've said were actually funny.

To save people some time:

We did consider it at one point. However, the laugh reaction is very heavily misused on other platforms (e.g. Facebook groups are a perfect example) to mock people and laugh at them rather than laugh with them. For this reason we aren't in a hurry to introduce it.

So I guess that, to let someone know that you found something really funny, you'd have to quote/tag them in a new post (as long as you're smart about it and your post is not just a laughing emoji or two word post then that should be fine! )

I definitely understand where you’re coming from. Personally, I’d like to avoid having a thumbdown emote since i really hate that there is that option on reddit. i stopped trying to participate in discussions since random downvotes for saying my opinion really hurt and made me feel like i did something wrong even if all i said is i like the idea. :/

Yes, I would love this as well. Sometimes I see a comment and would like to let the person know I feel for them, but I don't necessary have anything worthwhile to contribute to a full post. Using the like or love emojis don't feel right for this type of situation, so it'd be nice to have some sort of sympathy emoji.

But I wouldn't want to see dislikes become a thing on here or introduce anything that could be abused to make others feel uncomfortable. I like the overall positive nature of this forum.

I completely agree, I’d definitely love to have a laughing emoji, as it would portray a more specific reaction! There are many funny comments that would be deserving of that emoji!

i definitely agree that we need more emoji options! i’ve noticed that i, along with some other users, will like people’s posts in the “what’s bothering you?” thread to show support and so i think that adding a “” or “” option would be great! i’d also love a laughing one and maybe even an angry-faced one?

i get how sad faces, angry faces, and laughing faces could be abused... HOWEVER. i think it would be really fun to get some unconventional ones! i think stuff like kracko would be great if it's possible to add custom emotes to react with. maybe for showing support something like a bow or a hug (one of the new emojis)? ik these are kinda lofty ideas though and i wouldn't really mind if they never happened!
