Kojima Productions head Hideo Kojima this morning announced that The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes combined is actually Metal Gear Solid V, the first next-gen game from Kojima Productions running on its powerful FOX Engine. The news was revealed today during a FOX Engine panel at GDC.

I'm glad they combined them into one game, it felt weird having two releases for the same time era.

Saying that, I'm not sure how I feel about this game. The trailer doesn't excite me too much, it seems a little try-hard to me. At this point I feel like they're just trying to drain as much cash from the MGS series as possible.

Coming from someone who has never actually gotten around to playing the series, I think this looks like a giant cinematic, which is what MGS games (namely 4) have been known for. I feel like they're trying too hard to make it look graphically astounding. I will admit that it looks very very good, though, graphics-wise.

Metal Gear Rising was such a disappointment for me and I agree with Jas0n they are trying to drag the game out to much. Snake was given a good enough ending in MGS4 so why now the need to continue the series. However the graphics on MGS4 are still the best on any game i've ever played and that game out in 2008 and these look even better.

Put in spoiler tags because I have no idea what counts as spoilers for this series. This about Snake, though.

Metal Gear Solid 4 wasn't the same Snake. That was Solid Snake. This snake is Naked Snake, also known as Big Boss.

I didn't put in spoilers because the game is like 5 years old now most people have played it lol and I see that must be why they didn't contact the voice of Solid Snake for the MGS5.

While the series might be known more for the graphics, the gameplay is pretty great. If you ever get around to trying the series, definitely start with one first then do whatever game you feel like aftewards. I found one to be the most difficult to work with after playing Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Movie and Peace Walker which was pretty balanced and I liked the comic style cutscenes.

Excited shrill noises

also I liked rising but it was for the music and gameplay more than anything else. Not bad, not earth shattering. 8/10

Kojima will never be the type to milk money from something. I read somewhere that he's putting in 'mature themes' and creativity over sales. He's actually doing things differently compared to other MGS games. It's going to be open world, so you can do missions whenever you want and do them however you want. He also said that he's using something other than cutscenes to tell the story, so that's good news. Also Snake's story is over, this is Big Boss who we're going to play as.

Great combination of them, i had much fun while playing it, i liked it as i like watch dogs, and most common things in both games that is costuming i loved Aiden Pearce and Snake costumes.

Blarg. MGS5 is a thing I want for my PS4 when I get it.
Pretty much this for me, actually. I didn't get a PS3 until MGS4 was released, and I won't be getting a PS4 until MGS5 comes out. It's a long wait, but the footage of the game shown so far has been incredible. Definitely gonna be worth it.

Unless they announce a PC release...
