I opened my game up and TT'd one day since there were no rumors of moving from my villagers, and Merengue was gone. :c she wasn't my favorite, but I am sad that she just up and left. I guess I'll get Tia to come to my town, I did miss her a lot.

Atleast this a good opportunity for you to get Tia back! 
i'm sure you'll like Tia even a little more than Merengue though, since you missed her. That's really unfortunate though and real weird, since villagers usually do make a point of telling you if somebody's moving out. I had a bunch of villagers keep informing me that Fuchsia was moving like i know...because I approved her move I wonder why she didn't tell you that she was planning on moving? did you run past her or anything like that? Tia seems really cute though, and if my normal (Pekoe) ever leaves without my say so i'll probably replace her with Tia. There's always a bright side though! you can always visit Merengue on mainstreet. c: it's a bit rude though if she didn't send you a goodbye letter

Yeah, It'll be nice to see Tia again, since she was my first normal I actually talked to. I haven't got a letter (yet?), unfortunately. :c Oh well.
That's something I learned before I started time traveling (for the record, I only TT when I re-grow grass). There is a foolproof way to TT without having anyone move out.
You have to wait until someone pings you and tells you they want to move away. Then you can say yes or no, it doesn't matter. Once you do this and save your game, you can time travel as many days as you want, nobody will leave your town - except of course if you told this villager to leave.
Be aware though that if you want to time travel again, you have to once again look around and see if anyone wants to move away. Repeat and enjoy.
