Maximum villagers & pattern blocking

Ed has finally told me he's planning to move on the 10th.

If you have ever seen my previous topic not that long ago (about plot resetting for hours and failing at the very end and having zdekjfhrudjiq Bree literally in front of the town hall), you know I am trying so hard not to have villagers in bad places.

But I was wondering, since Ed is moving, I will have only 8 villagers for X period of time, yet the (main) maximum amount is 9, right?

So, if I place my patterns correctly everywhere this time and (theorically) don't miss a single spot, would I stay at 8, or would it automatically remove some of my patterns to forcefully place a 9th villager?

Thanks :)

The game will force you to have a 9th villager. There is no way to block them from plotting, and if your whole town is covered in patterns, they will just ignore the patterns and plot somewhere randomly.

I have done this in the past and it proved to be unsuccessful. A 9th villager will automatically move in whenever you reach 8 villagers. They will crush the patterns you put down to place their house wherever the game decides.

(A 10th can also move in at a random time, though extremely rare. The 10th spot is made for Amiibos, villagers from a friend's town, or those at the campsite.)

As already said here, the game will unfortunately force you to have a 9th villager, even if you cover your whole town. So to prevent any bad house placement, I would recommend to cover those spots proper where you don't want said villager to move in. Feel free to also cover more as may needed, just for extra safety (that's why I did to make really sure nobody is going to move into a spot which should stay free).
