Making villagers change their clothes?

I traded Stitches one of my shirts for a piece of furniture. He's now wearing it, and it looks terrible on him. I want him to go back to his default clothes or at least change his outfit to something else, but he's refusing. I reported his clothes to Isabel three days in a row and nothing has happened. I've sent him new shirts in the mail and sold him shirts from my inventory when he asked to buy them, but he's just placed all of these around his house as furniture.

How can I make a villager change clothes?

A lot of the time when I send them clothes they don't wear them but other times they do. It's just random really. I don't think you can do anything other than send them to them and hope they wear them? Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's weird. Reporting a villager to Isabelle should make that villager change their getup instantly. Did you happen to trade him that ugly gym shirt? That's the outfit Isabelle dresses them in after she rips the offending clothes off their bodies.

I think and she's still wearing the design her original owner made lol. I usually have the easiest time getting them to change by sending them a letter with clothing and saying "Please wear this top/dress" and etc. XD But I guess she just likes it too much.

Try sending 4 letters with a shirt in each, they will wear one of those

I think it helps if it's a shirt that is a gift they'll like, look up what type of gifts Stitches likes and try to send him a shirt you think he'll look good in from that type. Order a few just in case he refuses to put it on, eventually he will XD

I was about to say this. Go to Thonky, and find the "Recommended Birthday Gifts for Stitches". Figure out a shirt, and send him that.

You just have to keep sending it each day til they wear it. Shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 times.

I've been having some trouble with making them change clothes, too. I've had Agnes for the last six months and she's only worn two different outfits: her initial shirt and then the Ducky Tank that comes already in the Able Sisters when you start a new town. I've sent her three outfits already and she hasn't worn any of them; she just puts them out for display in her house. Ava and Cube also refuse to wear anything I send them.
