Upon completing my first "playthrough" of Luigi's Mansion (meaning I finished the story but did not get an "A" rank), I've been obsessed with the game, so I'm hardcore in the mood to discuss it. For those of you who have played LM: DM, tell me your thoughts on it; I've considered buying it.

I guess to start off, discuss the rank you got the first time you completed Luigi's Mansion. Or if you've been fascinated by the beta version of LM like me, discuss it. Which of the beta elements do you think should have been kept, and which are you glad they scrapped?

Yesterday I completed the story with a "D" rank, which I was a little disappointed with, but once I learned that the ranking system goes down to "H", I didn't feel as bad. I wasn't expecting there to be a ranking system in the first place because I was very careful not to stumble across spoilers, but I always had a feeling that the amount of money I acquired would impact the story in some way.

Luigi's Mansion is easily one of my favourite video games of all-time, and now, whenever I play a Super Mario game, I always play as Luigi because I feel as if we've been through something together.

The second game kinda disappointed me because it wasn't as dark and grim as the first game, and it didn't make much sense with the Dark Moon and stuff, because obviously there was no implication of a Dark Moon system in the first mansion, making the ghosts from that one not make a lot of sense.

The backstory of the ghosts is awesome, though. From the first game, I mean. The Boos are implied to have actually killed the family that lived there, and of course Bowser's corpse is used in the final boss battle, confirming his canon death.

I LOVE LUIGI'S MANSION SO MUCH. I can't wait to play the second game but I don't expect it to be as good as the first. Nintendo should def make more "spooky" mario themed games.

I'm kind of the same, but sort of backwards. I always particularly liked Luigi, so when I received Luigi's Mansion I was really excited to play it, considering it was his turn to be the hero (if we're not including "Mario is Missing!", lol). I became hooked on it because for once, I wasn't playing as a perfect character; instead, I was playing an underdog who was afraid of his own shadow, but built up the courage to put his fears aside to save his brother. I love the dark atmosphere too-- the game really stands out because Mario games are usually so bright and colorful, and the vacuum concept is very unique. I wish they kept the "depressed Luigi" in the game somewhere, at least as an easter egg.

I sort of had a feeling the sequel wouldn't be as good. I've noticed when really great games get sequels after many years, they just don't quite make the grade. I find it pretty cool that it's on the 3DS though, since Nintendo wanted to make the original game 3-D.

I love the backstory. I always felt sort of bad vacuuming up the portrait ghosts since the boos are really the ones causing trouble in the mansion. I didn't even think about how Bowser's corpse is in the game until you mentioned it, though. I want to read up on that more.

THIS. I also felt Dark Moon wasn't as dark and grim as the first game, and for that reason I never really could get into it. In fact, I still haven't finished the whole story despite the fact that I've had the game for years. That's probably also partly due to the fact that instead of just clearing the whole story first, I for some reason went back to try and improve my score on earlier levels and catch all the Boos, etc. I should have just finished the story first, regardless of how crappy my score was, before I got bored of the game.

I'm at the end of Dark Moon. The final task is pretty hard. Playing online is the only fun aspect for me, to be honest. But I do like some of the neat references to the first game hidden throughout it. For example, Luigi is living in the D-rank house from the first game, he's got the map from the first game, and I'm pretty sure he still owns a telescope from one of the old rooms.

Either way, the best thing about Dark Moon will always be getting involved in that world again, with Luigi, even though our adventure wasn't as scary as it was last time. One series I will always have to keep up with.

And guess who plays the game now. His name starts with a C and ends in Y.

Actually that's his screen name. His real name starts with E and also ends with E.

He also played the original. He's just now playing Dark Moon.

I played both games, and I loved both.

I bought Luigi's Mansion when I was about 9 or 10, I think, and I bought Dark Moon on release day, when I was 15. Luigi's Mansion is one of my favourite game ever, probably in my top 10. :) Almost everything about this game is perfect. Even though I was pretty young, this game never scared me. I just thought it was so well-made and it was looking beautiful. I still play it today, once in a while. :)

Dark Moon was also fun to play. I loved the story and the numerous mansions. I thought the game lacked personality, compared to the original (the Portrait Ghosts are missing... and even the regular ghosts feel bland). What I hated the most was probably the game being separated in missions. I prefered by far the original game about this aspect.

I LOVED Luigi's Mansion! One of the best Gamecube games ever! Dark Moon was also good, though, not as much! I look forward to any sequels in the future! :)

Just finished my second playthrough of Luigi's Mansion 2/Dark Moon. Still haven't found all the gemstones (two to go). :/

The original Luigi's Mansion is a wonderful game. I've beat it at least 3 times. Dark Moon unfortunately didn't keep my attention as much. It's not a bad game but the level/mission based take on the game progression wasn't as immersive as simply exploring the mansion to figure out what was going on or where to go next.

Where are you missing them? Emile should be able to help you up to the first 5 gems of the Secret Mine.

I love the personality of the first game and consider it one of my favorites on the GameCube, which is my favorite all-time console. I have completed all, but the final boss as I cannot get past it.

I like Dark Moon, but I feel that the ghosts are rather boring and not as creative as its predecessor. I am not really a fan of the controls for Dark Moon and wish they would have allowed for Circle Pad Pro support for those that liked the first game's controls. I find E. Gadd's calls to be bit annoying later in the game and the game more easier than the last game as well. Overall, I like Dark Moon and feel it is a good continuation of the series, but with the faults I have listed, it really dragged down my experience with the game. I would recommend buying it if you are a big fan of the series, but don't expect much in the personality department.

5th gem in the first mansion and 10th in Haunted Towers, but I managed to find them. Quite tricky they were. :)

I haven't played Lugi's Mansion :( but I've wanted to for a while now. I do have Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon though and I've loved it so far, I haven't beaten it even though I've had it for ages now.

I loved luigi's mansion on the gamecube however I liked 2 more because I prefer the ghosts in 2 due to their more memorable designs, also I prefer the boss battles and being able to explore different "mansions"

The final boss in the first game, you mean? I actually had a lot of trouble with that one... it probably took me at least 10 tries.
Also, are the controls in Dark Moon basically the same as the first game, just without the C-stick then? I really can't imagine Luigi's Mansion without its original controls. There's no other game that can be played like that; one of the main reasons LM is so special.
