i don't think you can buy from the amiibo characters RV's while visiting another person :/ but you can try anyways i have isabelle in my campsite right now

Actually you can. I had a mayor from one of my towns visit another one of my towns and was able to buy items, they showed up in my mail the next day.

The RV items are 3 coupons each, the items you buy from Harv are 5 coupons.

Just adding on to this, I think the price of items you purchase goes up if you are in another town. I bought the 3DS in my town, and it remains 3 coupons, but when I bought them in other people's towns I paid 5 coupons
