Probably weird to ask, but I'd like someone to kinda teach me the controls for PC/keyboard.
My bf was really excited to play this game together, but I'm pretty bad at looking up these kind of things successfully and even getting the hang of controls sometimes.
I know the basics, for the most part, and I know how to make Macros.
According to him, my main issues are quickly targeting, and using Dia/Cure quickly, which I guess is coincided targeting as well.

I'd just like to be able to know as much as possible so when we play, he won't get upset at me for not knowing something > _<
I'm a Tarutaru, Red Mage at lvl 13. He mostly wants me to be a healer and help keep the enemies in place (dia, put them to sleep, etc)
The macros I currently have is Dia, Cure and Wasp Sting.

Sorry if this info is unnecessary, just wanna make sure you know what you need to about me.
I probably sound dumb for asking for this :/
I just wanna be able to play without looking like a dummy v .v

Guess I'm just looking for ways to help get the hang of to move quickly (as I suck at keyboard controls, and my PS3 controller won't hook up for some reason :() and whatever else I may need to know as my role.

Thanks!

Kain why
why not FFXIV

I never got to play XI so I can't help you much there, but if the controls are similar to XIV's then you should have some hotkeys to quickly change target between your party members? I use F1-F4 for this. For enemy targeting, I tend to target my tank and using T to select the tank's target. Again, not sure if controls are the same so you might wanna check your hotkey settings.

As for actual party play, if you want to sleep or inflict other status conditions to your enemies, try to do that to enemies that are not currently being targeted by your dps, when someone other than your tank somehow grabs aggro, or cancel strong attacks your enemy may be casting.

That said, being imposed a class to play, no matter who they are, is not fun at all. If he seriously gets upset because you aren't a pro gamer when he doesn't even explain how to improve, you should just quit on him and come play XIV with me. <3

It was his choice xD He said back in the day he played it for like 15 years. Plus, it's on sale for $10 lol.

Yeah, I actually posted on Reddit about an hour of not getting a reply on here, someone told me about the Fkeys and some really handy macros as well. Though my Fkeys were being jerks, so I had to go to my BIOS to fix their functions cuz in the game they'd stay acting as special functions (changing brightness, switching screens, etc), but I got it fixed, so now I can target him quickly, yay!

For stuff like sleep, do I have to find them/get them once I'm a certain level, or do I just make a macro for it like dia and cure?
Do you mean like ahead of time find an enemy and get them to sleep/paralyzed/etc before they're fighting another so they can run right over to mine when done?
Sorry.. I'm kind of an idiot with this stuff...

Well, he didn't really force me to be it. I prefer being a healer than actually battling cuz I'm usually not very good at becoming strong lol.
Yeah, we kinda had an argument last night about it v _v he said he used to teach other's this way and got them to be the best, but I'm like, super emotional, so grumping at me and rushing me rather than calming reminding me or asking how I do ___ makes me really overwhelmed and ***** out not being able to focus and just end up screwing up more.. He's just kinda harsh lol, I'd still really like to be able to play with him though.
I wouldn't mind playing with you, lol, though I'm sure the game is a lot and I'm pretty low on funds atm xD

Ooh, Reddit is a good (and faster) place to ask about these things, yep. But yay, glad you got those sorted out!

I'm actually not sure when you get specific skills since XIV doesn't have red mages? Sorry, it might be better to ask our good old friend Google or the FF wiki for specific questions like this, hehe. And not really. I guess it doesn't work like this in XI (?) but when I attack a monster while in a party it automatically aggros two or three other monsters. It helps out a lot to sleep the ones that aren't currently being killed by the dps, since it reduces the damage done to your party members. If it's just the two of you against one enemy, you can focus on healing or even attacking to speed up the process.

Playing a healer or support in general's a bit complicated since the stuff you have to do isn't set in stone and rather depends on your party, haha. As a dps you really just need to position yourself and spam attacks tbh, and acquiring gear that boosts your damage output will pretty much be the same process as getting gear for a healer. As long as you like what you're playing, though, that's good.

Anyway! In that case, you'll probably want to try and play with other people for a little while to practice and get better in a less stressful environment? I don't know, playing like that doesn't sound very healthy.

XIV is a bit more expensive than XI, yes, and then there's the expansion pack that's like $20 more (not really needed until you reach level50), and then subscription's another $13-15 monthly depending on how many months you buy at a time. My boyfriend insists on paying every time though so I'm like. Useless. `7`
