Literal Sanrio Villagers

I've read many times that people are unhappy with some of the Sanrio villagers, i.e., My Melody's isn't a rabbit, etc.
In my humble opinion, it's better they're different species, so it's a new character instead of the actual Sanrio post girl/boy, which would possibly cause legal problems and would be bad for the company.

That aside, I found on Tumblr someone who used something called texture mod (I've got no clue) and made actual villagers based on the characters, so we can see what they could have looked like! Take a look:

I really like the My Melody villager, actually. Chococat is cute as well. The others, though...they look weird. The Hello Kitty looks even worse than Rilla, and that's saying something.

I really like My Melody and Chococat <3 Hello Kitty is cute too but I think an actual ribbon rather than a drawing of one would have looked better. Cinnamon Roll looks really creepy.. and Kerokerokeropi is cute but is wayyy too neon. Regardless, I do really love the idea of actually having the characters themselves rather than what we have. I only really like Marty and Etoile anyway.

There are awesome! I wish they were real. They are so cute, and I would love to have them in my town. Chococat especially, since I named my second town after him

OMG THEY'RE SO CUTE! I wish they WERE the villagers like how Epona looks like Epona but I have a bigger issue with the fact that some of them just aren't... cute. Not naming any names but I wouldn't have minded if they were all adorable.

I've seen those! I think they look pretty neat, but they do lack the expertise Nintendo has in designing villagers. I would prefer it if they were actually their species, especially since I don't know the characters and their species only confuses me now.
I think Chococat looks the best, (s)he's so cute! I wouldn't mind having her/him in my town.

these are really cute, the only weird looking one is cinnamoroll imo. i'd seriously keep keroppi, my melody & chococat. hello kitty looks nice but the ribbon drawn on her face makes her look a bit off...

The cinnamon roll one is damn disturbing. The other ones are quite cute. Personally, I don't like the Sanrio ACNL villagers much except maybe the sheep one.
