I have been reading about it, watching videos, and just wanting to learn more about it. It looks neat, and it's supposed to last a long time on an old computer. I just want to know if anyone here has used and would recommend it. I plan on getting a new computer and using it for gaming, and I want to use this computer(which takes forever to boot up) for browsing the internet and such.
For those who want to know what I'm talking about, this may help.

i have i linux acer aspire one don't buy it linux is crap cant play any computer games
it is just crap so if you are getting a new computer get windows xp vista or windows 7
windows 7 is the newest and the best a little like windows vista
ps:linux is very very fast.

1.) Linux is a free OS Distribution. Ubuntu is a great example of it.
2.) My current computer, my only computer, is getting pretty slow, so if Linux is as fast as you say it is, then this computer can last much longer.
3.) I hope to get a computer with Windows 7, or Windows 7 upgrade ready.

Could you please tell me some more downsides to Linux, besides gaming?

Hold on now there are applications to allow you to run windows programs on linux. If it is just for word processing on an older computer open office works on it. I have been meaning to switch to linux but it will probably just be on the next computer I get. Microsoft has just been annoying me lately.

I've been looking forward to google's OS, it will be linux, made more for netbooks though.

Downsides to linux.... well I'd say it can be unfamiliar but you adapt to it. My school has a linux lab, which uses kubuntu, used to use ubuntu though.

well you said you wanted to play games so don't get a linux computer it cant play games it cant download a lot of stuff the only thing good about it that it is very fast.

Well I think my favorite thing about linux is that it is open source. Meaning that unlike Microsoft it isn't hiding anything from programmers. This means a more open and varied applications not controlled by a single corporation. Now getting linux for this reason is more political than anything in my mind, but as a comp sci major I support it.

One of the main reasons I want to install it on this computer, is its old and getting slower. I just restarted and it was so long shutting down and booting up. So, the new computer I will use for gaming, and this one for everything else, unless I need to use the other computer.

Does this make any sense?

yes but cant play games on linux!
My God...

New Computer = For Games and Windows only applications.

Old Computer = Linux, Web Browsing, Video Editing, etc.

Plus, I think you can install WINE on to your Linux system and run Windows applications. But, I don't think I want to do that, unless I really like Linux.

Do you understand now?

I use a new computer for Ubuntu :/

My only one =D

This one, I love it, even though I really miss Windows Vista

But now it broke somehow
