Limited bugs and fish at the start of game?

I started playing New Horizons this week, I realized that the game only gives me a limited amount of fish and bugs, for example, I have only seen Common Bluebottle butterflies and Tiger butterflies and 2 types of cicadas. I have caught the same fish over and over again. I know the first week is a "tutorial" kind-of. But has this happened to anyone else or is my island just unlucky?

I was catching sharks right away when I started back in march, so lol

Those are just the most common bugs right now so you're gonna see them everywhere There are no creatures that are locked for the "tutorial" phase of the game.

when i started i paid off my loans with emperor butterfly. I think it's jsut bad RNG

Most of the rare beetles spawn on coconut trees and most of the beetles come out at night.

now it's winter and everything as far as bugs and fish go is bleh

Yah, I've been playing since day 1, and I still see those the majority of the time- they're just really common. Also, IDK if it's the same in this game, but I think in previous games, hybrid flowers had a higher chance of attracting nicer butterflies? I could be wrong, though! Also, as others have mentioned, the BEST beetles spawn on palm trees at night. Scorpions also spawn at night (so, I would suggest not running with your net out, as they WILL attack if they see you first). And the best fish, various sharks, also at night (though Whale Sharks can be caught during the day).

So it could be a combo of bad luck and bad timing!

Sounds like you’ve just had bad luck as there shouldn’t be any fish/bugs not available at the start of the game.

Make sure you get a lot of coconut trees in your island as well, because there are a lot of bugs that only spawn on them out right now in northern hemisphere.

I read before that they modified the "spawn" rates of rare bugs. Then again, you're just unlucky. The best time to hunt them is during nighttime. Then again, I am unsure of which hemisphere are you from.
