I was wondering... what do you guys write about when you write letters to your villagers?
When I write to them I mostly say random things that recently happened in the town
I usually write to them to thank them! It might sound weird, but my family has a tradition of writing thank-you letters every Christmas/Easter/whatever holiday we get stuff. I sorta passed it onto my towns too (?∀｀●）In Animal Crossing, it's usually just to thank a villager for coming over to my house, or for sending me a random gift in the mail. Sending birthday letters is fun too. c: It's actually a reallyyy good way to get the letter writer badges fast so I use it all the time! (｡･ω･｡)
I ramble on about nothing. Dear Sterling, Shiny objects are distracting aren't they? I bet that's why knights in shining armor are able to beat dragons, it must be their distractingly shiny armor. From, you know who... I notice that when villagers write back their responses are often influenced by how long or short a letter is. A short letter may make them say something about putting so much emotion into so few words and a long letter will earn a different comment.
It's usually a thank you or I found this awesome thing for you. Hoping they'll wear it or put it in their house.
As my friendship get better I write from your friend. When it's high I write BFF.
I did secret Santa last year and gave them bells. Gave them the next villager on the move in list to buy for.
A lot sent gifts back and others were upset that I gave them money. One said I wasn't his mother.
I write to ask them how they are, tell them about something that happened to me that day, thank them for something, tell them I'm giving them a present... I might ask them a question like "What's your favourite snack?" and then talk about my own favourite snacks. I also might vent to them about something irl if I just need to get something off my chest, but mostly I try to keep my letters cute and in-character :3
I just write them small-talk. Ask them how they are, a sentence about the weather or recent event ^^ I haven't written a letter for a long time though, it's too tedious for me.
I actually saw a letter that one of my villagers, Skye has. it says this:
Dear Skye
"My life is void without your sweatery aura around me. please come back to me my lover. forget this place and come back to my arms" From Sizzly

As for what letters I send, I usually send them something and tell them to put it in their rooms, or to put this on, or whatever.
