This is just what I have noticed from the last few weeks on NH but.... it seems to me there are a lot fewer ways to consistently earn bells in NH, a game where bridges cost A Lot. I'm not saying earning bells in New leaf was easy, but there were definitely more options.

One of the reasons I think the NH turnip market is so demanding (I have seen some people charging 600k per trip if they have high prices), is because turnips are basically the only way to make a lot of bells. In new leaf, there was the perfect fruit market, the turnip market, as well as (what I did to pay off my house) nightly visits to hang out on an island with Tortimer and catch an entire storage full of golden stags and sharks. I know the tarantula method could be compared to this, but getting a good tarantula island takes several NMT, and in the end you can only take home 40 tarantulas since there's no storage like there was in NL.

Anyone else running into troubles on how to consistently make some decent money without being taken to the cleaners by people who want Completed Robot Heroes for one trip to their island to sell turnips lol?

I feel the same way, I def feel more strapped for money, esp since not just amenities, but items cost so much more too!!! Like theres so many items over 100k now omg. If you dont buy turnips its pretty much impossible to make enough in acnh :(

I made my first million by abusing the hot items at Nook's Cranny. Still abusing hot items, though I'm doing turnips for the most part now.

Exactly!!! I feel like perfect fruit (even without it as a hot item) was a really good way to make money! I realized this months after I started NL and I...... ate my only perfect orange....... I had to grow like 50 more trees and shake them for several months before a perfect fruit came along OTL. But after that I made money the perfect fruit way!

You also have to compete against other people to do well in the stalk market (e.g. watch for queue openings). Yes, there's exorbitant entry fees, but they can be disregarded. They're few and far between, and the few that do pop up are rightly ridiculed.

However, I think that being able to play at your own pace has been lost to some extent in NH. It seems that you can either avoid the NMT / stalk market altogether, making very little progress per day, or go very fast by using online trading. There doesn't seem to be an in-between.

I personally never really used perfect fruit as a money making method in NL. Unless you have them all over your island, then it simply wasn't as efficient as either turnips or beetle/shark hunting, partly because once you shake them all you have to wait a few days to get more.

I do miss beetle/shark hunting, but I don't really feel too much problems getting money. It's slightly slower if you don't abuse turnips, but it's not too bad. It's still better than any AC game previous to NL for sure, IMO. Like Khaelis said, Hot Items work pretty well. Actually crafting in general can work out pretty well if you have a lot of excess common materials. I get 30k per day from money trees (I always look for the shiny spot every day and plant 10k in the hole so I constantly have a new money tree sprouting), I make sure to look for my money rock, and I take full advantage of hoarding expensive fish and bugs for the CJ and Flick visits.

There more "ways" to make bells in NH, but none of them are as fast and efficient as the island in NL. In NL, you only had to pay 1,000 bells to go to the island and you only had to landscape it once to abuse it for bells. In NH, you have to earn NM for the trip and then landscape the island every trip, and some islands are not very good for tarantula farming. Also, tarantulas are worth less than golden stags, so you make fewer bells per trip. NH has crafting and the money tree, but those are somewhat limited income sources. NH puts more emphasis on "diversifying" your income sources, since it's really hard to make lots of bells just doing one thing (other than the stalk market).

Disagree. I think there are plenty of ways

Fishing makes about 75,000-150,000 an hour (and more in the summer)

Money rocks give you 16k per day.

5 wasps per day = 14,000

Some days money trees are more fertile, which means free 198,000 bells in a day. (20k on non fertile days)

Peac0ck butterflies spawn on hybrids, and easily make about 100,000 a day by just catching them when you see them

I've played New leaf, the the only thing that was different was on lucky days, you'd get 32k from a money rock, or possible gems.

EDIT: Also Bell Boom, but then again NL required more money from the player.

EDIT: In this game we have Flick and CJ, which means 50% more income on fish and bugs...

This is kind of funny because to me I've felt the exact opposite way. To me it's been a lot easier to make money in ACNH than in any previous animal crossing game. There are a lot of common relatively high value bugs, there's money tree, money rock, daily wasps, easily exploitable tarantula island, etc. Plus, the large inventory + item stacking makes it wayyy less tedious to just farm the heck out of fruit. The common ways to bell grind in general feel less tedious to me in NH.

Ymmv, ofc. And I probably gained some more patience between now and the last time i was into NL. But my house is fully upgraded and it's been only a month since I got the game... extremely fast for my usual snail's pace
