So I'm currently working on my town, and I decided to some of it, since I wasn't happy with the area around my town plaza. The only problem is that while I'm happy with the way the town plaza is set up now, it's ruined the area next to it, and I'm not sure what to put there instead.

(Using Tumblr because of the larger images, only got small versions from uploading here. Sorry.)
This is the old plan.
This is the new one.

Orange = PWP
Light green = grass (usable area)
Middle green = bush
Dark green = tree
Light brown = path
Purple + light purple = house

My town plaza is in the top right corner (I have my map saved in Excel, and unfortunately saving it as an image apparently erased some of the lines for the acres...). I'm only concerned with the area right of it, where, above the path, I would have a windmill, and below it a small playground (which I was iffy about to begin with, I'm more concerned with the windmill) with a chair sculpture and jungle gym.

If I don't add bushes, I have an area 5 spaces wide (leaving a space on either side) to work with. I've thought about putting something 3 tiles wide in the area, but none of the possible PWPs come into question - I either don't like them, already have them, or they would fit better somewhere else.

TL;DR: I need to figure out what to do with the big empty area in the top right corner of the new map.

Any help would be great, I just really don't want to have to move around stuff a lot or have a big patch of nothing.

If you already are going to put up the windmill and those other PWPs there, would you still have those 5 spaces to fill up? If they're between those PWPs, maybe you could fill them up with flowers or patterns?

The problem is that since the space is an odd number of tiles wide, while the windmill and other PWPs are 2 tiles wide, I wouldn't be able to put them in the middle of the space, and I'm currently not sure if I'll use patterns (either way, I'm not big on patterns that have objects and whatnot on them).

I've seen a lot of people planning there town like this in excel but is it worth it? Did it cost a lot of time to like prepare everything before you could start planning out? I might consider doing it if I'm not going to have to be doing a week long worth of extra planning work.

It probably took me around 3 hours of work to do that, and that included panicking over thinking I had completely messed up because I scrolled down without realizing it. It's not too hard, as long as you keep track of where you are, but it's tedious.

Also, if you want to plan your beach as well, just know there are sort of void spots that are neither on the cliff nor on the beach (I have them marked as maroon or something).

EDIT: Sorry, it took me 3 hours of work to copy my town into Excel. After that, it will take a bit more time to plan what you want, but then you'll have it forever and it'll be really easy to change. Plus, it's easier to figure out some areas, for instance when they're separated by the river.

Okay, thanks for the response. I could have never imagined it would take 3 hours, you must be very fast. I might try it but I'll probably mess up. Some ACNL guru needs to make an tutorial on this.

Wow the map looks nice.. Must have spent a long time in it xD

Anyways, if it's a small space and not enough room for pwps, you could make a small otlrchid with fruit trees there. Maybe your native perfect fruits. I always put a small orchids in my towns.. c:

Like I said in the edit, it did take me extra time to actually do stuff with the map (what I did in 3 hours was just the exact map of my town, without landscaping), and I did do it with my first town as well, but it is pretty easy. Just use flowers to get the exact area you can use (since patterns can also go down over the stone area), use those and patterns to keep track of where you are, and use items on the bridges to make sure you get the distance right. Then just make sure to stick to spreading from what you have, as in don't go to an area that isn't connected to anything you've mapped out, continue using flowers to get exact distances if you're not completely sure, and as long as you don't mess up anything on the computer without noticing it, you should be able to get it done without problems.

Thanks! Ehehe, luckily it was only a few hours of work I could mostly get done during some free periods at the end of the year.

I was thinking about replacing the playground with that, but since I already have an orchard next to my mayor's house, I would have to figure out what to put there.

Yay for MS paint! I did a quick edit of an idea I had: http://imgur.com/UoIbwDw

I started by working in your windmill, but for symmetry's sake I made the entrance to the playground two blocks wide. I decided to offset your boot and jungle gym placement so that it's less obvious that there's one less block to work with than above. Since there was an empty space, I added a drinking fountain or sign.

Omg your layout and planning looks amazing! If you dont like any of the 3 width PWPs, why not make it a tiny orchard with fruit trees spaced evenly in that area? Or you can have 1x1 PWPs placed diagonally of each other. Either way, I'm sure you'll figure something out since you've already planned everything out so well! Best of luck with your decision and I'd love to visit your town/dream address if you have that available c:

Wow, that's a really great idea, I think I might use that. Thank you! ^^

Thanks! I don't have a DA yet, unfortunately, since I only recently unlocked T.I.Y., but hopefully I'll be able to post it on here sooner or later.

I did consider an orchard, but since I already have one I would have to figure out what to put in its original place. Still, thanks for the suggestions!
