Info:
Killer Instinct is a fighting game series not well known in the mainstream media.
Unlike Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct doesn't go for the gore factor like most fighters that released post Mortal Kombat.
This game has set the bar for combos that most people see today, no game before it had the option or mechanics to obtain a combo over 10. Throughout the 90's, it became a treasure for the arcades as it was so popular that they practically payed for themselves.

After Killer Instinct was released on the N64, no other installment was made for 15 years due to legal copyright on the game's name since a show took the name after the copyright expired. For 15 years, Rare, the original company that produced this gem went silent since they were forced to make platformers and other games aside from fighters due to management at Nintendo.

During that 15 year span, Rare was purchased by Microsoft. With hope lost of a successor for Killer Instinct, most fans gave up on the dream of a 3rd official game. Upon the Xbox One reveal, Killer Instinct 3 was announced as a launch title, developed by the company Double Helix. Being their first fighting game made, they did extremely well as constructive feedback was taken seriously and applied to the game. After Season 1 was finished, Double Helix was bought out by Amazon. Iron Galaxy Studios now works on Killer Instinct 3 in lieu of Double Helix for Season 2. The game is still in production while the game is out. New content being added monthly with new stages/music/characters/bug fixes.

Here's a taste of the main theme that has been produced by Mick Gordon. A faithful remastering of the main theme!

I became a huge fan of it when I played the ported version for the SNES about 14 years ago. I still like it to this day, but I don't have any current gen platforms i can play it on
