Kapp'n's Family?

So this might be an odd question, but I've been wondering this for a LONG time. I've only ever played CF, WW and NL, so I don't know the entirety of Kapp'n's lore, but...

Are his wife and child new in New Leaf? Or have they been around before? I honestly can't remember.

Also, I actually thought his mother was his wife for a little while, until I realized it was actually the young lady behind the desk. And now I'm left wondering...

Isn't his wife a little young? I mean, I know there are lots of people who date with large age gaps, but... Unless he's younger than he looks, I am thoroughly confused. (It's definitely possible he's younger than I think he is.)

Kapp'n's age is unknown, but I understand why you would make the assumption that he's an old animal, considering he's been in every animal crossing game.

I'm going to assume it was my mind warping it, because when I look at the picture above, he does look younger than I thought. Man, my brain's wonky, I dunno.

As for that, ehh... I'm not sure. I've not played a male character, so I don't know what he says to them, but I've taken lots of screenshots of... Well, I'm sure you've seen them all already. Yeah, they could just be compliments, but they come off with a REALLY odd tone. I just went through my screenshots, and...

I honestly used to think he was an old man too, espically back in the gamecube era. But I'm also one of the weird people who though it was funny/kimda cute how he was an old sailor who would flirt with all the girls. So I was pretty surprised when his wife turned out to be so young I guess I could have overestimated his age, I could see him being in his 40s if I tried, and his wife looks about in her 30s so it's not that big of a gap.

You also need to realize it's a japanese game, the japanese often think things like flirting are all in good fun and are seen in a comical light, so it's also a cultural thing where it's seen as just a joke in japan it could be seen as more creepy here where flirting is a more serious/creepy thing

It doesn't seem like flirting to me, at least not seriously. It just seems like he's complimenting/joke flirting (I don't know how to describe it) with the character to try and get them to smile and enjoy themselves. I don't think he's actually hitting on the character. I can't remember what he says to the male characters since I only had one for a short period of time before I got sick of all of my villagers talking about him.

I can see how he would look older than he is though, since he's bald. But then I saw the rest of the family and realized he just looks like that because he's a kappa.

Yeah, even though I didn't play the gamecube version, I definitely thought he was older. He just seems it, y'know? But I think it COULD be that he's partially weathered from being a sailor. That's definitely a possibility

And oh, I didn't actually know that! With all the manga/anime I have, you think I would've. Well, that makes sense then. I guess it just translates as a little odd over here, especially the part when he asks if you're a mother. That was weird. Like, I love him, but oh man. What though.

I actually knew about kappas, so it wasn't his baldness; I can't actually tell you what it was. I just... Huh. I dunno. It seemed like he'd been working for a very, very long time (and he has, considering he's been in the GC version!), so I was just sorta thinking he was just an older sailor guy.

And yeah I do understand what you're saying but my brain just... Mm, I dunno -- it happens so often that I'm just like "is he serious what's going on", y'know? But if they do take flirting lightly over in Japan, then I definitely understand it. Cultural differences can make for confusing things sometimes; I remember that one story in Pokemon Black/White about the Hiker on the ferris wheel that they had to completely change in English so it was even remotely kid-friendly... Though that wasn't just flirting, ahah. Oh boy.
ANYWAY. It's interesting to see other peoples' opinions, actually! I've always found it creepy, though I love Kapp'n to bits. I was flattered at first, but the more it kept happening, the less comfortable I became. xD But I've learned something today, and I like seeing your opinions :3 It's really interesting. Actually, the only reason I take issue with it is because he's married with a child now. ): I'm a bit of a stickler and if he IS serious, I don't think that's fair to Leliana (that's her name, yes?) unless she knows about it. :c

Arghh I see how it is then" - was slightly Awkward haha anyway I do agree that kapp'n looks a lot older than his wife. Or maybe his wife had plastic surgery to make herself look younger or something? Yeah he does that a lot, and when it's just one guy and 3 girls he makes a comment to the guy about how it's ok to have so many lady friends. He seems to want to set people up a lot, I was on my guy character and he said he and one of my friends would make a cute couple and we both screamed "NO' at the same time it was pretty funny XD

The magaphone is pretty much broken. Only Kapp'n responds to it, it think it's a Kapp'nphone.

But try to say the names with a sight Japanese accent, that seemed to help it work a little better for me and a few other people I know
