Do the different types of shovels/rods/nets actually do anything?? I've always wondered this!

Silver shovels produce ore from one rock a day if you hit it and gold shovels allow you to plant money which will sometimes grow into Bell trees. I don't think the gold/silver rods/nets do anything except look pretty.

I've heard that the silver/gold fishing rods give you more time to pull up a fish and extend further than the normal rod.
Silver/gold nets have a bigger catch radius and are longer.

This is what I've heard, the fishing rod one seems true (I have the golden one), but I'm unsure about the net.

Yes, the fishing rod gives you an extra beat/second to pull up fish, and it attracts them easier. The net is slightly bigger, making bug catches easier too.

As for tools like the golden watering can, it lets you make gold roses and you can water 9 flowers at once.

The silver axe supposedly increases your chances of finding special tree stumps which produce mushrooms. You can identify a special stump by a unique symbol on the center of it after cutting the tree down.
