So a couple of months ago I found out about this awesome crate called Japan Crate, much like the Loot Crate, Julep, or whatever that shoe one is with all the commercials, where you get a box every month.

In Japan Crate it is a box stuffed with Japanese candy, DIY candy kits, a drink, and usually a savory snack for good measure.

A while ago I got obsessed with Kracie's Popin' Cookin' videos on youtube, and then obsessed with buying and making the candies myself, and then just in love with japanese candy in general, so I HAD to get the crate.

Today I am getting my 3rd crate and I have been so happy with everything I've been getting. What I wanted to know is if anyone else has heard of this? And if not would anybody be interesting in seeing an unboxing/taste test video when I get my crate? I know plenty of people have done them, but I kind of want to as well, since everyone has different tastes and opinions anyways!

I've heard of it. I watched a Youtuber do an unboxing of one of the crates. (Can't recall which Youtuber though.) All I can really recall was them getting some really gross seafood as their savoury snack. Shredded squid I think? Anyway, I think the boxes are a good idea, just not something I'd subscribe to. Personally, I wouldn't watch another unboxing of a Japan Crate, but I'm sure loads of other people would. If you want to do an unboxing, I say go for it.

Yeah, the squid was NOT great. It tasted like if someone put sweet fish juice on shredded beef jerky? Not the business! That was the first overly weird thing, but shoot I'll try just about anything once! I also buy Japanese candy from Japan all the time, I can't get enough that's why I decided to subscribe, they send candies that I can't easily obtain, and I buy candies from Japan that they don't usually include in the boxes.

That sounds awful. There's not much seafood that I enjoy, so that sorta snack wouldn't appeal to me. I'd try it though, I too try will anything at least once. Yeah, I can see why the boxes are a good investment for you. Personally, I've never tried Japanese sweets, unless chewing gum counts. =P The sweets always look nice though, I may have to try some one day. Sadly, I've only ever come across Japanese sweets at ridiculous prices. I'll have to see if I can find a specialist shop or something.

My little cousin is absolutely hooked with Kracie's Popin' Cookin' products so whenever I visit her she'll always show me the things she got from ordering online haha! Too bad the shipment payment is kinda pricey because of where we live.

I also used to watch a lot of RRcherrypie's videos last year thanks to her (curiousity got to me).

Hm.. that's interesting.
I'm currently getting another Japanese Snack monthly box, but mine is from OyatsuBox!
I love all the snacks!!

I might think of either switching to that one, or adding it along.
OyatsuBox is 25 dollars per month, for 1 pound.
I got 11 diferent items, 10 candy including 1 key chain thing.
Most were snacks, with 1 day kit.
Looking at the crate, it looks about the same.

One of my favorite snacks is neru neru.

It's funny you should bring this up because my husband and I have been lurking around at all the different candy boxes from around the world and trying to figure out which one we should get. There are so many of them, especially from Japan, so I'm just wondering how you decided on one! The one you picked is very high on our list, mostly because of the drink and all the little puzzle/play candies.

I do have to wonder about the drink. Is it okay with travel? I wonder if it's ever been broken. It seems a bit risky sending it so far!

I think besides the drink and the promise that you will get certain things (2 diys and the drink, for instances) I think the boxes are the same. I think the added weight comes from the drink, because the number of snacks otherwise look about the same.

I also wonder, since I live in a predominately warm area, would some of the candy melt on it's way to my area? I would hate to spend money on such an awesome concept for the candy to be all melted by the time it got to me... I really do love this idea, though. There are so many kinds of Japanese candies that I've wanted to try but found the shipping prices to be too much.

As for watching someone try the candy, I've done it before and all it does is make me want to try the candy for myself :p

I just found out about this the other day, and I really really really wanted to get it, but I can't justify paying the extra $10 or whatever it is to ship it to Canada. :(

That looks cool. I'm not a Japan obsessed person, but I love trying snacks from around the world.

I wish they had something like this for Russian snacks that I miss :c
You can only find so much at the eastern European markets here.

As for the melted candy/damaged drinks I have not experienced any thus far, and I've gotten a Rumune. They have one day shipping but that might be because I am so close to the source? I live in California and I always get it next day, which is amazing! But they are also out of California.

I think it is definitely worth the extra for the drinks because they have all been very good so far, I've gotten the sparkling apple Pokemon drink it was super fizzy, way fizzier than American soft drinks, and I also got a special Champagne flavored Ramune! I'm not going to lie there have been some not so great things in the boxes but I love the experience just the same, in my last box there were these DIY gummy candies that tasted like glue? It was pretty strange, but I still tried it and made my SO try it too. I totally forgot that today was SUNDAY though so I couldn't grab it from the PO until tomorrow. But with all the questions and stuff I will at least post pictures of what I get.

The DIY's are super fun, and as for the ridiculous shipping to get some things from Japan there are specialty stores in most Japan-towns that carry a lot of the candies, they sometimes charge a lot for them, like for a Kracie kit usually like 4-6 dollars, when I get them on amazon, free shipping(even though it takes a few weeks) for around 2-3 dollars which is a big difference.

The drink part does sound interesting, I might think about ordeirng it or switching them out once I've had a few more of the current ones.

I adore the DIY kits!! I have two (bento box & hamburger) waiting at home for me. I think I also have a cake one hidden around somewhere... They're really fun! The latest oyatsubox came with a candy apple diy kit, and it tasted amazing. The apple smell was sooooo good and strong!

I order mine from Jbox. Keep in mind that allthough the prices are somewhat fair, it takes a very long time to get here. It took a week to get the order through, and it was only then that I found out that they didn't have one of the items they said they had. Then it took a month to get here, and the tracking was terrible. (They do have the best deal for neru neru, 3 for 5 dollars. Which is the best deal I've seen. And I love the stuff.)

I will look into Amazon. I've had good luck with them so far!

I seriously wish they had these for various countries. I like the Japanese snacks I've tried in the past (certain hard candies and pocky) but I'd like to explore foods from other places. With all the monthly "box" sites out there, somebody has to have had this idea by now... it's just a matter of tracking it down.
