It's taking longer than normal for one of my towns to be erased.

Actually it might. My original town cartridge corrupted and made the game card completely unreadable. But I don't think OP has any choice but to turn it off, as it was taking hours

Your game probably has crashed. I guess all you can do is close your game.

I accidentally switched off whilst the game was *just* finishing saving... it was a fraction of a second. Fortunately, there is a workaround which someone on TBT pointed me to, but it involved buying the digital copy of the game for full price.

Did you try erasing by pressing ABXY while the game is loading? Maybe it will work..
