Items Disappearing?

So I've been collecting villager pics for a while. I first stored them in secret storage, which were then moved to that character's letter slots in the post office.

Recently, I was looking for a specific pic that I had marked off as obtained but I couldn't find it anywhere. I looked in the entirety of the character's storage, secret storage, and letter slots (at least twice) and couldn't find it anywhere. These are the only places it could be since I only put pics on this character. Out of curiosity, I started doing an inventory check and then realize that about half of the pics that I marked as obtained were missing.

I'm pretty good with inventory management and I've never not been able to find an item I was looking for before. I'm hoping that I just wrote the original list incorrectly, but it's highly unlikely since I remember obtaining specific pics that I knew I had but couldn't find.

Anyone else experience anything like this? I love this game, but making such a crucial mistake somewhere has me pretty down at the moment.

I don't think I've had items disappear, [from Post Office Save Letters] but I haven't actually checked, I don't keep an inventory of what I put in there nor do I use unused/not yet sent letters.
In acnl I use letters that have been sent to that character (Mom/villager letters etc)
I doubt anything would disappear in secret storage or ordinary storage … but save letters I'm not 100% sure.

I've not seen any posts saying there was problems with items saved there. It's worth searching on tho.

The only issue I remember is from either acww or accf (can't remember for sure which) - unused/unsent letters placed in save letters with a note as to what item it is holding, cannot be later sent - well they send but are not received.

So my qn is what sort of letter did you attach them to in save letters? And have the letters themselves disappeared as well or just the contents?

I have little quirks: I had a piggy bank I was changing to gold (customise with ore) - I think disappear, I forgot I had it with Cyrus and when I remembered (a few days later, but weeks later in real time (I freeze ingame time)) it was not sitting on Cyrus's stand for that character. I've never found it & I'm certain I didn't sell it or pick it up, but maybe I did, whatever it was gone.

Two alts in different games have never received the gold sling shot (& should have done balloon count wise).

Frustrating. I would check all your characters save letters just in case you had brain freeze and put them all with another character? Well its possible.

I wasn't even writing what was contained in the letters, that's a great idea to save time later.

The letters are mostly written by one character to my mayor, but there was a couple from the mom. It appeared as if the whole letter or gift was gone. I'm fairly convinced it's an error somewhere on my part. I'll probably go through all the storage later and see if I can find anything/edit the letters with what it contains. However, I do vaguely remember letters disappearing on me one time in the GC version, but it's been so long I'm not sure why that happened.

After playing this game for about five years I've seen my fair share of bugs/glitches, so I thought it was worth saying something at least to see if anyone saw anything similar.

I presume no save letters disappeared for you - it is still a qn mark for me, I must have vaguely remembered that tech forum post all these years (it came up when I searched lost save letters). Its a pity that original post I linked to is no longer available.

One really doesn't need things to disappear in this game - the only other area I've seen mentioned for disappearing items is flowers-and again that seemed more prevalent in earlier games. Its a difficult one as its not easy to discount accidental run throughs & visitors.

Items left on the ground displaced by Redd's tent etc must be kept as a list somewhere in the game, as they can appear in the Police Station - even if currently not got, displaced items can appear later if you then build it. But not necessarily all items, maybe there is a cap.

Do you have museum rooms? Whenever I lose something it's because I dropped it somewhere outside or I've left it in the museum.

@Ably.Saucey As we speak I was literally looking around the museum LOL!! Worst case scenario, I left it on the island thinking it was the borrowed one from lloid. I really don’t think I could have sold it to Re-Tail, I’m really careful (but you never know)

@Snowesque I really can’t remember now as it’s been a while since I’ve used the black wet suit. Searching for your items & organizing them can really be a pain on this game.

Also, not exactly like your letter slot situation, but sometimes when I?m trading I attach items to letters when I need more space. I?ll check them soon, but I?m sure it won?t be there as I can count with one hand the items I save there... so basically what I?m trying to say is I could have sent it to a villager LOL
