I don't get the item buying from other players. I understand they need to make a profit from it, but sometimes I get the feeling that players ask too much for their items. That's just me though.

How are those prices determined exactly?

I kinda understand what you mean especially when people sell clothes or reorderables, some people do ask way too much. Usually they factor in "labor costs"... I usually just sell them for store price, but some stuff like the grace seasonal stuff I'll up it a little more if they aren't available at the moment or just make people go to my store and just buy it directly.

Lots of stuff are rare or unorderable and that's why they're more expensive, I understand that. Usually items like the regional DLCs or items that aren't readily available like the holiday stuff are harder to get instantly and that's kinda why they're usually in the millions.

However, there are major inflations that have been happening since the game started vs now. I remember buying gold roses for just 20k when I started last year around this time or at least trading 1:1 for black: gold roses, and now some people are selling/offering like 100-500k each and doing 2:1 or 3:1 for hybrids:gold roses. Yowza lol!

It also kinda sucks though since bell tree has the TBT system people are able to get ig bells much easier which somewhat breaks the game, but idk. What can you do? People offer how they see fit.

Yes I think a lot of it is supply and demand, like a real economy. It does help to have TBT bells though :)

I don't think I saw many unreasonable prices for stuff recently

I mean, hybrids got much cheaper, at least from what I saw. I remember carnations being in the 400k mark for a while

I've noticed this too. It's unbelievable when people ask 99k for something that costs much, much less in game. I can sort of understand when it's an unorderable item (though it still seems weird to ask that much for an item you don't want), but I've seen people ask that for reorderables just because they're DLC. I understand wanting to make a profit but sometimes it's just greedy.

Thankfully, I'd much rather pay for stuff in TBT than IGB. It's still overpriced (especially when you consider the TBT -> IGB exchange rate) but at least it doesn't affect my game if I spend some TBT.

I haven't seen many unreasonable prices on here tbh and in my experience this is quite a generous site, but people set the prices they are happy to sell for, if you don't like their prices you don't have to buy from them. I do think it's reasonable to charge quite a bit for rare or unorderable items and some people will ask extra if they have to TT or go out of their way which I also think is reasonable. Personally if I have an extra item in storage that someone wants I tend to give it away free, or if I have to order something I normally only charge the catalogue price. People have helped me on here so I like to pay it forward.

I don't think the in-game bell price is unreasonable. I mean, it's all supply and demand on items that are not easy to obtain. The 7-11 set and other unorderables are pretty hard to get but that's due to the time it takes to actually get the items and then to give them away with no definite reassurance that you'll see the entire set again.

While there are some prices you might call unreasonable, others will find them perfectly acceptable. Most of this has to do with the shopping method you choose. Some people go for the first sale/offer they see, while others such as myself window shop to find the best price. If you disagree with the price, you really only have two options: Haggle or move on.

Personally, for re-orderable items I would offer twice the order price. You make a marginal profit, but anything higher is superfluous. Is it really so much of a hassle to order a 500 bell shirt that you need to charge 100k bells?

Now, for exclusive un-orderable items it's understandable for the price to vary. Think of it in terms of an auction. Fewer on sale, higher price. Many for sale, lower price. Here it's all about undercutting your competition but still earning a profit.

I have to agree with you on the high prices. Idk. I think people really want to earn bells quick by selling regular reorderable stuff. On the other hand some items are more rare for some people as I heard that not every town has the same stuff very regularly
For example: in my previous town where I played a good two months I never found ANY of the lovely furniture, but in the town I play in now (since YESTERDAY) I've already managed to get two items out of the serie.

So I guess some people are willing to pay a lot of bells for stuff they can't seem to get.

It's annoying though :c

While I find the prices to be generally reasonable, I think Bell Tree trades go into higher prices than other communities I've been to... which is, like, two, lol. On the AC Reddit community, values seem to be about the same as BT but are often on the lower end, while ACC seems to trade for much less bells in general. I think forum bells definitely influences the in-game bell prices too, which gives us another way to get bells so we have higher value trading going on.

I just price items double from what they cost, as I want to make some profit. I don't buy items on here though, I have enough stuff in my house.

How are those prices determined exactly?

In all truth, there really is no 'legit' price set determined for items or villagers since Nintendo never had officially release a price guide, making all price ranges pretty much imaginary. YOU, the player, can decide on what price to set for your standards. Remember, just because other players are trying to determine a price set upon the statistics based on what other people are asking for doesn't mean it's right, let alone legit. These people who make prices are trying to simplify a way to help players get the items they want for an even trade if necessary. However, sometimes people don't have the significant funds to get what they want due to this 'pricing' scale being a bit over-priced majority of the time, often creating tension when watching other players put items or villagers up for sale for a hefty price. The reason people value items to be high priced can often be determined by how rare the item or DLC is, as well as how popular a villager is. Personally, that in all truth is illegit considering what some people may feel is a 'rare' or 'more valued' villager or item, other's may not. Personally, I make my own standards when pricing villagers and items to what I deem to be fair for both parties, so both end up on a mutual agreement. As long as both parties are happy, I am happy. That's all that really counts personally.

Keep in mind that people also like to price what they want depending on how hard it was for them to achieve that said item. As you know, everyone's experience is different when dealing with items or rare dlc. While one guy may have had a hard time getting a rare dlc, the other may not have since he could have knew a guy who gets it for him for free. In the end, the person usually sets the price they find suitable to their taste and needs. Just do what works for YOU. What you feel is necessary to put. If people say you are to high, oh well, tell them to move on unless you are willing to bargain with them. You will find a person who will pay for what you post. If a guy can put 2 bil bells for a villager AND get it paid by that price, then ANYTHING is possible price wise. Do what makes you happy, not others.

.

What you feel is decent I think, if you buy things from your friends.
I think its like this...say, you can buy one video game from your friend in cheap price, but you can't buy it in the same price at video game shop.

I put the prices according to my rule. How much efforts or real hours I have to put into getting them.
For example 2 bell bags for Japanese holiday items. Reason is that I can get them as much as I need, but I have to risk the TT as well. So 2 bell bags. EU/KR holiday items for 4 bell bags. Reason is that I need to keep being in good relationship with my friends in that region. It means I always need to be being ready for paying forward to them when they need something including help in real life.
As for regional unorderable DLCs such as 7-11 pieces, I required quite a lot. Ratio was like 3 or 4 to 1 DLC at that time, depends on what they can provide me, meaning how much efforts they did have to put into items which they are going to put for trade. For my end I needed to drive for an hour and a half for one-round trip to the spot where I can download 7-11 pieces, and an hour or two for downloading them as much as I could every week. I needed to screw it in my busy schedule. So my ratio was high.
I put the price for all orderble items for free including DLCs. I needed to complete my catalog, its my appreciation for my trading partners.

We can earn like 500k in an hour or two by rare bug hunting tour at night. So 5 bell bags is likely worth for two hours of effort.
So. If its pricey or not depends on where you are going to obtain it from, I guess. Of course its on the premise that you obtain it by legit. If not legit its a different story.

As for stupid inflation of these days on tbt, actually I consider its root is coming from the same root of partial stupid deflation of rare stuff. What they may say sounds reasonable at the first sight, like, the matter of demand and provide, or helping people, but I don't think so. They just don't care about the whole picture. Its both no good, excessively high or excessively low. The balance is important if you care about the total result to this small society, that's what I think.
