It should not take so long for people to arrive on your island

The dialogue with the dodo‘s is what gets me, you accidentally click local play? Sorry gotta go back to the start. You accidentally click use a nook miles ticket instead of visiting someone SORRY GOTTA RESTART. Gahhhhhh sometimes I really hate trading because of this!

however! I love flying over peoples islands it really does give me ideas and inspiration so I don’t mind that at all!

Isn’t this a function of the game needing to load the other player’s island? It’s not just random; the cute arrival screens mask the actual load time.

I agree that I’m not sure why all players have to see it, though. Seems like the game could handle letting the people already ON the island keep doing their thing, even if they had to restrict, say, use of menus or something like that.
from what I've read online (I'm definitely not an expert on the subject lol), the reason everyone has to see it is because the game needs to save the state the island is at at the moment each person arrives. like, for example, imagine I go to your island, and you invite someone else in. while that person is coming and their game is loading your island, you decide to plant a bunch of trees or something; however, the version that the third person's game is loading isn't coherent with what the island looks like after you modified it. so that could cause issues and that's why the game state is paralyzed until the newcomer is loaded in

I agree to both sides. Why don't they just add a "skip" feature instead?

I agree. While I do love seeing someone's island while I fly in, it does get annoying when trading or when just visiting friends quickly in general. Same with the walking out screen while leaving. I don't see why they couldn't just let people come and go as they please and put some text in the bottom saying "_____ has left" or "____ has arrived"! Kind of like what they do when a friend comes online. Would make it sooooo much easier and simple. I don't understand why, but Nintendo really drops the ball when it comes to online multiplayer.

I'm fine with the island flyover, I think it's neat. I however, despise the Dodo Airlines loading screen. If you're an Aussie player with the usual bad internet you can be on that screen forever 😒

Agree, it's really annoying and that waiting/loading thing is just laughing you in the face. And we pay for that online.. psht.

So is the multiplayer peer-to-peer? Seems like this could be resolved if the player's island was synchronized with a server, and them that server syncs the island in real time to all players. I'm not too much of an expert on networking, but I am sure the same can be used if the host was treated as the server. One example is Minecraft. There is no needing to save before a player joins.

If the Dodo's text wasn't so bloated, I feel like this would be so much easier to deal with. It's all the little things that break the camels back.

I believe it is peer-to-peer, yeah

Although I agree the wait time is unbearably long, I think the flyover/ticket scene is way better than seeing a black loading screen.

That being said, I understand that the game is very advanced graphically, but I feel like the current Nintendo online play experience is beyond disappointing and almost unacceptable given how "big" Nintendo is as a company. "Online play" in Pokemon SW/SH is absolutely ridiculous (aside from VGC). I can't tell you how many times I have tried to host or join a raid in the Wild Area and have gotten communication errors/problems. It honestly makes me so mad that I have to pay real money for something that barely works. ACNH is not as bad in my opinion, but like I said I agree that the wait time seems longer than it should be. And don't even get me started on the "Wuh oh!" messages lol.

Sorry for the rant, I just feel like we shouldn't have to pay money for this sorry excuse of "online play." Especially since its nothing special compared to the online play of past consoles that were free.
