It should not take so long for people to arrive on your island

But they somehow made online more manageable when we weren't paying for it...

Lol exactly. Sometimes they can be so backwards when it comes to online. Why does it require me to download a seperate mobile phone app just to voice chat. At that point you might as well use Discord or something else that has more features to chat.

Not that it really applies to Animal Crossing, but it does for Nintendo. Smash Ultimate is a step backwards compared to 4 in so many ways. And I remember voicing concern for AC online when we realized what we got out of Ult and were paying for it. Everyone ignored me, but here we are.

Yeah for some reason they refuse to listen to the community when it comes to online features.

I think I read somewhere that Nintendo took away direct messaging because of an instance where a child was inappropriately messaged by an older man on the 3DS. I don’t really understand why they wouldn’t push for stronger parental controls rather than take away online features for everyone.

Idea: Just let us toggle if we want to see the cut-scene or not. I agree it has charm and it's cute when I'm just playing with my friend.

It's however, way less cute when I'm stuck on someones island trying to leave but I can't because people keep coming in and by the time the cut-scene is over someone else has started a new one.

Maybe you could talk to the dodos and they could ask if you want to go in to "high traffic mode", which removes all the fancy arriving rituals.

Also fix the leaving with - glitch. It's very tempting to press that button for the sweet merciful release from loading screen purgatory when you're stuck on someones island.... but I also don't want to potentially corrupt all of our saves or kick everyone.

I understand the length of time for the person arriving to the island, but for everyone else, there shouldn't have to be a cut scene. Really messes up those meteor shower sessions and/or turnip selling runs.

I love the fly over. It makes it feel like you're actually traveling. I understand frustration with the constant incoming outgoing thing but tbh it's not that bad as long as the host limits the amount of guests.

I like getting a glimpse of the island i am visiting although it could be annoying if you are in a hurry and have a list of other trades to do. What i dont like is when i am the one hosting. I find that cutsecne, or whatever it is, to be kinda boring. I agree that having the option to get rid of all this stuff would be better if they can implement that. I rarely played games with such online features before nl so i dont know what would be the ideal way to do this.

This happened to me once and it was infuriating!

I think it was a Celeste / shooting stars visit, and as soon as I stepped out of the airport I got stopped in my tracks by the next visitor, then again after edging another's two steps towards Celeste, then again...and again..and again...

After about ten minutes of this, it got to the point where I was considering turning off our router to try and escape from this hell! I couldn't bring myself to do that to the host though, so I gave up on seeing Celeste and started edging my way back towards the airport...ever...so...slowly!
This is the worst D:
It has happened to me multiple times trying to sell turnips. I agree that it's fun to see the island from above, but the process should be a little faster

This is the worst and was basically what Club Tortimer online felt like. You'd be trying to catch a shark, but nope! Someone just arrived on the island. And when they're done loading the shark is gone. And just like that the person who just joined decides to back out and go to another island to hop around and find one that is hosting different items to buy.

I'd be like 'alright guess I'll look for another rare bug or fish, walk two steps, and boom another joins only to then leave right away. Cue two loading scenes right after the other. And it just goes on and on from there to the point where I just flicked the switch cause no one has time for that.

Surely they could make it so that a new person joining doesn't interfere with those already on an island, though?

It makes the game unplayable when you're getting constant interruptions.

I used to play a game called Phantasy Star Online for the Gamecube (back in the mid 2000s) and they had the same set up whenever someone would join your game. Sega made that online game 20-15 years ago. So yeah Nintendo is way behind in the times. But even than when someone joined in PSO it was so much faster than this. It'd be like 10 seconds and if it went on for longer it was because the person joining lost connection.

But guess what? If someone lost connection it didn't kick everyone. Nintendo just being lazy and not putting enough effort in. They always said online wasn't their main appeal, but go and make games that focus solely on online and than expect money for services that are worst than their previous versions.

Isn’t this a function of the game needing to load the other player’s island? It’s not just random; the cute arrival screens mask the actual load time.

I agree that I’m not sure why all players have to see it, though. Seems like the game could handle letting the people already ON the island keep doing their thing, even if they had to restrict, say, use of menus or something like that.

I noticed that the loading times vary. I'm guessing it depends on the difference between my distance and the other player's real world location.

I live in Asia, so players that also live in Asia have faster loading times compared to those I trade with located on Europe.

Nintendo Online is big big hot garbage so it’s very unsurprising. I get disconnected for no reason a lot when I’m online as well

omg i agree with this 100% there has been so many times when I'm trying to sell turnips and there's a visitor coming in with each step I take. I wonder if its actually necessary to put the cutscene of the different phases of the plane arriving or if its just something nintendo thought would be cute to add in (and it is to an extent, it makes the whole DAL experience more immersive i guess but it does get repetitive after 5 consecutive times)

It’s pretty neat seeing the snippets on the island, I wish though there was an option to skip it, but it’s understandable.

I think it's pretty cool seeing other people's islands from the plane, but yeah if you are doing heaps of trades it slows everything down which is annoying. I wish there was a choice to skip it if you want to and not just for this but a lot of other stuff in the game that make you sit through a lot of dialogue for the Nth time.

I love seeing other islands on the way down. Often so impressed at some people’s creativity 😊. It is so frustrating when you can’t even leave airport when so many ppl are coming and going. (Don’t get me started on interferance 😳 )
