I need your opinions on my map? I am struggling to decorate I look at a few references sometimes on Pinterest and design from there, mixing them up and adding my own style to them but I feel like my maps hard to work with? I have no idea what to do with cliffs I might add the museum near my house on the back cliffs but I am struggling with many things 😫. Does this look like a bad map to work with I know I hate the way I’ve arranged my villager houses I’m redoing it :) I also have 4 residents had 8 before but knew this would be too many :(

Additional player houses do take up a lot of space. Are you just using them for storage or did you want more houses to decorate?

You can save money by moving as many buildings to the beach as possible if you don't know where they should go. You can mark plot outlines with paths to see how you want the buildings to be placed before moving them.

Did you have a theme for your island? Any areas you want to make in particular.

I want them to decorate :) I might do that reay unsure how to have the houses I’ve seen so many ideas.

I might put them in a row like 4 and 4 some on the cliff and some underneath and 2 somewhere else but not sure. And maybe the other 3 residents scattered.

I would like a park maybe and nice paths quite colourful and maybe a flower area and an entertainment/ pool area :)

If you want to decorate houses, have you considered using Harv's island instead to play around with? Houses take up a lot of space unless you plan on sacrificing yard space for the houses or have them right up against each other.

I could do I think it was aswell wanting a few different characters I did originally have 8 and realised this was way too much. The island was smaller than I thought :O I could narrow it down to 2 or 3 characters maybe

As for your villager homes I personally am fond of a multiple level design because then I can put the lower houses next to the front of the next cliff and not have to worry about losing space behind them but it does take some patience and teriforming. And yeah I would stick to only two or three characters so you have more space elsewhere

Yeah I’m a bit stuck on how to do my map I am thinking of some sort of multi level for villager homes but not sure how the yards and paths would all work well and stuff to look nice. I did them in a horrendous way I stacked them kinda like 2 and 2 all behind eachother and I hate the way it looks now

I recommend several things:

- Don't try to plan the entire map at once. It's good to have a general direction to work with, but trying to think of a purpose for every area at the same time is going to give you a headache. I suggest picking a small area to start with (like the park or entertainment/pool area that you already know you want, you can move them later)

- At some point I killed most of the river on my island and split it into two rivers, one normal long one and another tiny one just to work with the river mouth. It frees up so much space for extra areas or houses!

- Some river fish can only be caught on a part of the river that is up on at least one level of cliffs. You currently have none of that and you might want to try putting it into your design :)

I used to have stone paths leading up to my villager houses but they were three blocks wide and really bulky so I switched to a custom path I found, I like to use a mix of fence and bushes around most of my houses and put some little stuff outside too.

Thanks for the advice everyone who has commented :) taking it one step at a time will help :)

I’m thinking to do with the resident space to put a house on the beach and make a beach home (Inspired by a youtube video) which will save up space.

really unsure with the river because resident services is really close to my airport and the river looking on the map is quite closed in (unless its me being picky) so I might try and do a long one and a shorter one :)

That looks so cool I love it! i was thinking something similar multilevel I just keep seeing loads of references and liking too many😂I was exactly the same in new leaf

Restart your island if you don't feel inspired, but any map will just be a map without your input. They all suck, but what would inspire you?
A better airport placement? A better town hall position? A centered secret beach? Or are they all irrelevant facts?

Nothing about your island is inherently bad. Lots of people would love to have that rock beach down left and it's in a great position with the airport and the town hall. Make the space inbetween something special and be proud about it. With that, you can connect little areas to it.

Rivers can be changed and seperated. You can make something wild with your weird peninsula. Your secret beach can divide your upper levels.

thanks for the advice! Was thinking of changing the rivers and maybe making a secret park somehow or a flower garden like with benches and flowers and stuff in the middle of a river (maybe like tarantula island but with a different shaped river) :)

Sounds like you have good ideas! I definitely wouldn't reset over the layout, I think you can make it work just fine :)
