I want to start collecting them, but is there anything I should know first? Aside from the fact I need an NFC amiibo thinger.

What is it that you'd like to know?

You probably will want to consider investing in some sort of folder/binder to keep them in. The ones that are released in the USA have got 3 names on the cards (usually English in the middle, Spanish and something else I can't think of on the side) but the ones in EU have got 5 names. Some people only want to collect a particular set so they have a completed one of one type but it does make it harder to complete. All cards are able to be used anywhere in the world as they aren't region locked so it's totally up to you.

Yes you'll need an NFC reader if you don't have a NN3DS in order to scan them into your games.

Yeah, what I'd like to know is what abilities they have/what benefits you get from them, aside from an addiction to collecting them :p

There isn't any abilities they have or anything I don't think, other than the welcome amiibo villagers who appear in your RV camp. Other than that they work just like regular villagers. The villagers not included in the welcome amiibo cards don't come with RV's, as far as I know they just let you scan them and ask them to move in like you would if you were asking a villager from another town

You can use a card to kick out any villager you don't want and scanning them skips the 16 villager cycle. So if you lose somebody you can move them right back in

For the older cards (series 1-4), you can scan them in and you can make them move into your town. They do not have RVs.

For the newer cards (Welcome Amiibo) you can make them move into your town via scanning cards in, as well as buy items from their RVs. Some have items you can only get from the cards.

Its really addicting and you're not going to want to stop until you have them all. Atleast that's how I am lol ~

Also, you're probably going to get a lot of doubles. With my first five packs of Series 1, I had four doubles. Just my luck.

Something from my experience: don't move in an Amiibo Villager unless you really, really want them. Amiibo Villagers are ridiculously hard to move out unless you either, move them out by using another Amiibo Card or own an all-Amiibo Town.

Also, you can use Amiibo cards to play the Desert Island Escape mini game. The Series 1-4 can also be used with Happy Home Designer, where you can scan both special characters and villagers in to design their houses. If you are looking for specific villagers, you should find out which series they are in. As another user stated, you might want to consider buying a binder or folder. I got one specifically for Animal Crossing. It's cheap and plastic but it fits my needs just fine.

I hope you have a lot of fun collecting them!

It is addicting. Be prepared to have to search stores to find packs. Stores near me only usually have series 1 or 2. One you have built a decent collection and have some duplicates, utilize the post office forum on here to trade cards if you're comfortable with mailing them. I've gotten cards I want that way just by mailing them one of my duplicates that they needed.

I'm excited because tomorrow I'll have 18 Welcome Amiibo cards in my hands :)
