You have to sit at the town tree and wait for the history of of your town reel to finish. The number of visitors you've had appears at the very end.

^That. Keep in mind that it includes total visits so if you have any alternate characters they'll have their own "visit count". Or if you visit your own dream town and visit Porter he can tell you, but you'd have to be able to visit your own dream town :/
