So I just sold my town for quite some time now, but I want to sell it again since I want to restart and like play for real now since I just neglected my very recent town due to my busy schedule, like is there a way to make the tree grow faster? Does skipping time help with growing the tree?

In order to be able to sit on your tree you have to have played on 50 individual and unique days and have 50 hours of play time in that town. The fastest way to achieve this is probably just to play a lot/leave your ds idle, and make sure you have played on 50 different days in the game. Time travelling over a long period of time in one go won't help.
