For many years I’ve avoided VR headsets because of health related fears, namely my diplopia. After trying Google Cardboard for a few hours my fear vanished. There is so much potential in this medium and I’d love to dive deeper! Unfortunately, the only affordable headset that looks appealing to me is the PlayStation VR. To those who have owned this accessory, would you recommend it to newcomers or suggest looking elsewhere?

My brother bought it while he was staying here during the middle of lockdown (I also played it a bit), and he was honestly obsessed with it. I thought it would be very niche, but it seems you can actually play through whole games like resident evil without getting tired of wearing the headset! Also if you were worried about the price, then you can always just buy the headset without the control sticks, because it works well with just a controller (that's what my brother primarily used). I can't speak on other options, but I believe the PlayStation VR should (?) work with the PS5, so that will also unlock more powerful hardware for it.

TLDR; Yes, it's a great and affordable option!

For the price? I'd say so but with the release of the new PS5, I'm not sure if now is the best time to get one since they might come out with a new one(?) That's just me though, personally I'd rather explore more options and find the one I'm totally in love with and work for it rather than one that just works and is cheaper (especially with tech since its an investmentI dont want to make quite often). But with the pandemic it makes going out there and trying things a lot harder lol

I have the HTC Vive and it also works wonders but it does cost a lot more. The headset fits comfortably even when I have my glasses on and with it being compatible with all the Steam VR games, its a great investment for me.
