I was browsing ebay the other day and I saw someone selling bells and furniture sets for actual money (about $15-30 actually). It wasn't just a one time thing- they and others have multiple listings and auctions. In my opinion, I think it's a little silly because people could join a site like this and get help for free and associate with all of the nice people here. How do you guys feel about that?

I feel like that's really stupid and sounds like something EA would pull. I really hope none of the players out there are dumb enough to actually give those people their money.

there was actually an auction the other day that I saw that I think started at around ten dollars and was bid up to almost forty :c

People are dumb enough, trust me. It's seen as easier to just spend real money rather than trading with in-game stuff, even though they're making more of a loss.

I think it's bad, but what they do on another website is their problem. If any of them are on here, they know very well that this community doesn't like it.

I'm honestly just glad to see that at least a few other people share the same opinion as me. It just seems utterly ridiculous

Even on Facebook Games there are people that sell in game items for real money. I never saw the use of it for games like this myself. I guess it depends upon the item, the player and the benefit the player feels they get from the item.

I use to play an RPG where, when you hit the level cap, you could unlock an ultimate mode character that had better skills, more power and way more stats. The drawback was if you died in game and didn't have a resurrection stone on you or a healer to resurrect you, your character would be wiped along with any equipment they had in their inventory. I paid real money to the game company for rez stones because I had invested a lot of time into building my character and equipping her. I stopped eventually because I found that I enjoyed the game less when I had to pay real money for something that would allow me to play in a game world.

Personally I think it's really dumb to waste your money for virtual items when you could have easily gotten them another way for free.Even if you somehow think it's a good idea at the moment you could come to regret it later. It is their money and they can spend it how they want, I just don't think it's very smart.

I can understand that gaming companies like that would want the real life money in order to help them keep the game up and running- especially if it was free. But at the same time, I have also spent a few dollars on games I have downloaded from the App store on my iPad and regretted it.

Wow I think that is really dumb to spend real money on virtual items. :O

Perhaps people don't know that sites like this exist- I wish I could post a comment somewhere on ebay and let them know. It's just silly because you could buy another ACNL cartridge or another game or a lot of other things for the price they're asking. Then again, I have seen shiny pokemon being sold on ebay for real money as well

Tell that to the TF2 community. The main reason that game still gets updated frequently is because people spend hella money on it.

like I said before, I can understand paying money to play a game that was already free because it'll benefit the game later on via updates and what not- because the money is actually going to the team that builds the game. But in this scenario, the only person that is really benefitting is the seller- because let's face it, the buyer is being swindled and will get no further benefit later on out of it.

Well, that's depressing.
I don't understand why someone would be part of a community like this, though, if they're just going to buy the items elsewhere. That doesn't make sense to me. I mean, yes, people come here to talk about AC, but the main point of the community seems to be trading and selling for Bells.

I just think it's kinda dumb especially since you can get items on websites like this.

I myself has spent real money on Hay Day, but that was a free game on the App Store and it was only $1 for 100 diamonds. (I waited for the sale lol originally was $4.99) I believe that is worth it. ^_^

Depends on how you look at it. Purchases through the in-game store do benefit the developers and thus the game (as well as third party people that add their own thing to it).

There's some anomalies in that economy though. You get a crate from a random item drop, buy a key for it that costs 2 dollars or something, and if you're lucky enough you get an item that you can sell for 500 dollars. Those are real figures. I've been lucky enough to get such items a few times but I would feel bad selling them to people for real money, since I paid so little for it.

I'm getting a bit off-topic there. What I'm trying to say is, if something's hard to get, some people are gonna ask for real money for it, and other people will be buying it. Not everybody figures they can just trade in-game items for whatever they want, so their hard-earned money that they could use to buy actually useful stuff goes to that. It's sad, but it's shifting that way more and more. Candy Crush on Facebook is a good example of it.

Wow. I would not pay money for virtual items, even if they are hard to get. The only time I paid for a dlc was for the extra chapter of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies. I feel that was worth it because it added another story and Pheonix Wright chapters are pretty long The dlc chapter is very funny too. :)

I personally hate spending real life money on fake things online, and I turned off in app purchases on my phone and every other phone ive ever had with the option to

the only case in which id be willing to is with music on itunes or something, but now I just use free mp3 downloads so that isnt an issue anymore

however, the more people who are stupid enough to buy ac **** for real life money, the more ways there are for me to make money, so im not complaining

Ohhh boy, this is giving me flashbacks to when I had an active Neopets account and I spent just insulting ammounts of money on "Neocash" (Which could be used to buy clothes for the pets) and the economy of Neocash was so broken that you had people spending like $50k of actual money just for a wig or something (Worst part is, once you got Neocash stuff, you could NOT sell it back for real money. f they caugh you doing that they would freeze your account and you would lose everything). I regret every single penny I spent on that damn site :l

The only kind of extra money Im ever willing to pay for digital stuff now is like... DLC that adds more story-gameplay to a game, nothing else! Specialy not something that will make the game easier and end faster. (Also Pokebank I guess, $5 a year to keep all my Pokemons comfortably in one space is reasonable enough)

I don't like when apps or games that aren't free charge you for items. Like I already paid for the game, everything IN the game should now be free...

People can do what they want I suppose. Perhaps they're too lazy to earn the in game bells required to buy stuff on sites like this.

I can understand buying DLC because it usually adds a new chapter to the story or a new location or something like that, but buying 100 million bells and a princess set doesn't seem worth it to me- especially for $40. And as blockmayus said, I can see paying $5 a year for poke bank (because it'll keep the servers up and etc). I'm definitely enjoying reading all of your comments on this though!
