I have no interest in making fish bait and haven't at all I was wondering if it's even necessary or what it even does exactly?

It's not necessary at all, all it does is spawn a random fish where you use it!
It's good for those who dont want to keep running up and down their beach or river and just want to catch a certain type of fish in a certain spot. I used a ton of fish bait to catch the river fish that only spawn in the higher parts of the river

The bait spawns a fish once you spread it. It's useful when you're trying to catch the fish that are only caught at the pier, pond, or upper cliffs (lookin at you golden trout....)

It spawns a random fish where you throw it. I typically dont use it at all.

It helps a lot for the really rare fish. For instance, I spent 200+ fish bait on some of the rarer fish like the Mahi Mahi. I can’t imagine how long it might have taken without bait.

You’re not alone in how you feel, though, as tons of people would rather purchase bait than make it themselves.

I see I did not know that it makes a spawn yes that is useful

I was wondering if perhaps I needed to use it in order to get certain fish but I geuss no?

If for regular fishing, I would say not necessary, but as far rarer fish you're trying to get, fishing baits definitely helps. I got many of rare fishes that way to catch for the museum. It would definitely take longer if I never used it.

If you mean fish that are only caught by using fish bait, then nope! you could catch all the fish without using a single one (although I can't imagine how long that'd take)

I use it sometimes, and I now have a bit of a stack of it because someone gave me the tip to always keep three manila clams in my inventory so that whenever the "craft three things" Nook miles task comes up you just place your DIY workbench right where you are and craft three fish bait quickly. But yeah I wouldn't craft tons of it just to catch fish. I'm more the type who runs up and down the beach, tbh.

It's not necessary because fish can spawn without it, but it's essential when you're looking for a specific fish. You can't force spawns otherwise.

That's really good it makes a spawn cause I hardly ever see fish on the docks or out far so it would be nice to just go out and fish off the end of the dock !!! Yay..

I stopped using it after the first week, tbh. I would consider using it again, if it could be mass-crafted. But, it really doesn't feel worthwhile to me to waste the time making 10 or so little things of bait to be used in a couple minutes...when I could easily just walk up and down my beach and probably find more "good" fish than I would standing in one spot. I've always had better luck just looking for fins or specific shadow sizes than I have with using bait.

i use it for farming fish for bells. if u stand in a specific spot on the pier and cast ur fish rod right after, u dont even have to move while fishing. but now it seems that diving provides more bells, so i'll probably only use this during the fishing tourney or something

The only time I use it is on the last day of the month when a fish I haven't caught is going to disappear and I'm getting desperate!

The only reason I use them is when I'm pier fish hunting! It's far faster for that.

I've caught all the fish so far in Northern Hemisphere (March to today) without needing bait, it's too annoying finding clams on my island because the beach is clogged with a billion flowers lol.

It helps a lot for catching specific fish so you can force a spawn, rather than having to run back and forth. Pier, pond, and upper level river fish benefit the most from fish bait.

Other than that, there's little use for it outside of the fishing tournament.

I use it for pier fish and have used it for the the fishing tourney. I wish we could craft it in bulk but QoL/accessible design and Nintendo are not the best of friends.

Fish bait is not nessacary at all! My sister has never crafted fish bait once this whole time (she's been playing since release date) and has caught more rare fish than I have (I usually use fish bait). She has caught multiple barreleye, golden trout, sword fish, etc. Her method is just to go up and down the beach/river catching everything in sight. You'd think it would take ages to catch rare fish this way but somehow she catches rare fish within 10 minutes lol. She's not a hardcore gamer and her AC playtime is like 1/3 of mine, but like I said she has more rare fish in her museum than I do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
