Soon after the game’s release, I saw some posts and comments reassuring people that the game “remembers” amiibo invites, so if I invite Bones today, Daisy tomorrow, and then Bones the third day, that counts as two invites for Bones.

However, I’ve recently seen a couple of posts that made it sound like the number of amiibo scans resets if you don’t do them three days in a row with the same villager. Is that true? Seems weird if so, like the villager forgets your town after 24 hours despite raving about how amazing it is. Without the frequenting online forums I don’t know how the average player would guess that requirement. Could anyone with personal experience clear it up for me?

It doesn't reset. I'm not sure about scanning different ones between days, but I know it doesn't have to be 3 days in a row. As for the requirement if you keep talking to the villager, they do mention the "third visit and they will join" thing.

Thank you! I would still like to know if anyone has experience inviting a different villager in between scans.

Nevermind I’m not confident in my reply so deleted it sorry.

I have invited villagers with others in between and they remember they've been before. I even had one move in on the third try after scanning a few others after the first two times.

your take is very interesting. with how nintendo does the conversations or mechanics, i would have assumed that they won't remember. but in theory, they should be or else it's really comes across so fake when they ask for requests and rave about your island only to forget about it a few days later or the next week. i bought new amiibos and wanted to test this as i'm not even sure who to kick out yet. so yeah, i'll just have fun at the moment inviting villagers in.

i'm just curious though.... if you're inviting everyday does it ruin the chance of maybe getting a random one the next? or it shouldn't be relevant to that?

Scan maniac here (literally, I scan Amiibos every time) it doesn't actually affect it. I got an ugly gorrilla villager as soon as I resummoned Diana (and invited her to stay again). I would like to say though, I tt every 6 days since I "wash" the overly-cluttered villagers to reset their interiors back. (3 days for the replacement, 3 days for the returning villager)

That 6 day period multiplied by two (or at least how often you scan them) it could take account for the right RNG to get a camper.
I think I got 3 campers trying to cycle/reset my permie villagers for 4 times now.

I hope that made sense. It's difficult to explain.

it made sense, just a bit confused with the 6 day thing. but right, i should have asked people that frequently scans! thanks btw, been wondering this.
if only they found a way that villagers would remember you and they don't have to restart all over again if they are rescanned, that would be so neat right?

at first, i thought the 3 day invite thing wouldn't feel long. but as i did it/once you'll keep doing it, it's like a 5 day process per villager if you don't tt. that's kinda crazy. 3 days convincing him/her, 1 day for sold plot, then 1 day in boxes, they're just like officially a resident by day 6. (is this what you meant when you tt every 6 days?)

Yeah, to clarify, both replacements and returning villagers require 3 days (a.k.a 6 days worth of TTing). It's very tedious but it benefits people looking for their dreamies and me since I can reset my permie's interiors. I hate that they display clothes like furnitures. I wish I took this into consideration before giving Raymond too much clothes. 😩

I wish for that too, I hate that I have to reset the friendship and memories just for the clean interiors. Some kind of memory retention would be nice...
