I've finally gotten around to decorating and expanding my house, but for some reason, I'm having a difficult time. Right now it's still a mess. I have a plan and the items I want picked out, but it's not coming together.
In HHD I have no problem making rooms look great, but I my vision isn't coming together as easy while playing ACNL. I think it's because I don't have all the items in front of me. I have the extra storage already, but there's something different about being able to see the whole catalog of items laid before you.
Well, I don't have HHD, but I sometimes come across the same problem with room layouts, but most of the time I can easily overcome this with a bit of imagination and a general idea of what I want in the room, also, I tend to do a list for furniture ideas in rooms. Like, I want to do a bathroom/spa/massage room, so I combine the three of them, and use items like the bathtub (this item deserves more love) and minimalist bed, and using men's toilets and a super toilet across the room. You can easily create the idea of room that you want in HHD, and look for the items in your catalog, or here in TBT, I'm sure people want to help you out on this!
How I feel you... I always end up to buy a lot of thing here on the TBTs only to see how they look like and, too often, I don't even use them at the end. So, my advice is, if you have Happy Home Designer, of course, to use that game to plan your room, even if the final result is often different in New Leaf due to the obvious differences between the two games... At least you get a general idea of what the room would look like.
I've changed the theme or purpose of my rooms many times over, because I can't get the look right. Sometimes taking a piece over to Cyrus to refurbish can give a whole new perspective. I wasn't much of a fan of the ranch series, but done in white, the table and chairs are perfect for my kitchen. That set the tone for the rest of the room, really. The same with the patchwork series; I had the table, couch, and chairs done in reds and warm tones, and it helped make for a cozy home office space.
Putting different series pieces together, that either are close in color/design or complimentary colors can give ideas. Or putting out a wallpaper and flooring combo and then looking for furniture that plays off of that (and don't forget about remakes from Cyrus).
