I just...I just don't get it.

When I created my town, I knew exactly where I wanted to place all the houses of my mayor and my alts. The problem? One of the spots was taken by one of my dreamies, Kabuki. I fought with myself for a long time, but I decided to let him go.

He moved out today. I created a new character. And now...Nook won't let me build in the spot. I just don't get it. I know the house is wider - I measured the area out, dangit, and I'm not dumb - but I still can't build there despite there being enough space. No, apparently it's too close to the river. Okay, whatever, I can live with the house a few steps down, I'll just have to re-plan all my paths.

Nope. Apparently, I'm then too close to the plaza. The plaza, I might mention, is about five million miles away.

I just...I don't. I don't know what to do. Where to put that stupid house now. And dangit, Kabuki! :( The spot is perfect, if I had known that I couldn't put my house there I would have never let him move away from the spot!

What is happening? How much space does that dumb house need?

Isn't the house like 5 squares across and 3 up? So you need like 15 squares I presume.

aww *hugs* don't worry so much about it! houses, pwps, and other things of the sort are annoyingly difficult to place for many, many people (myself included). and don't even get me started on bridges... anyway! is there any other location in which you can plop down that house? try to take a step back and imagine it somewhere you wouldn't imagine it at first glance. this can actually help paint the rest of a new layout! there's always resetting if you really want, and you can always get kabuki back! so don't worry! there are always ways around stuff :)

Exactly. That's how much it is. And look here, I dug holes to show how much space there is. You can see the outline of Kabuki's house on the ground in the middle. Even if there has to be a space at all sides for the river as extra, it should fit!

Oh and here is where the first row of the plaza begins. You can see the lowest hole I dug at the upper edge of the screen:

And yeah, mizukitty, of course I can cycle (never reset, though, I needed three weeks to get this map). Sadly, there is no other place where the house would work; it's the only place on my island where it would look good and I want it and the island to be Zen themed so I can't exactly place it on the mainland.

I am aware; I just didn't want to erase all the path. I can go down one step on the path and still get the "too close to the river" message and then I have spaces all around. The second step on the path gets me the "too close to plaza" message.

Yeah, because going down one step would still leave you without two spaces to the river diagonally, and then going down one more - you need an extra line in front of your house because of the door.

Wait, so I need to be two lines away from everything for houses? Kabuki was only one line away as well and my PWPs can be only one line away, too. What. Just...what. That doesn't make any sense at all! This is just as dumb as bridge placement. Two holes diagonally is super-much. Ugggh. I just don't even know. One line diagonally is basically as wide as two lines horizontally/vertically. 8| This game, it makes no sense and it explains nothing to me. ;_;

I think the problem is that we weren't MEANT to be able to be so picky-choosey. I personally would have left Kabuki there and opted out of no third character or just sacrificing and moving them somewhere else. Sorry to hear, though ; v ;

This.

I totally understand your frustration since many ideas I have to my town are not fullfilled since there's not to much space or whatever... But as Static Spark said... I guess we just have to go with the flow of the game and try to work around it... Nevertheless I'm sorry for that!

That would drive me mad! I had to force out most of my starting villagers in order to build my alt houses, my campsite, my caf? and my police station. Arrgh!! Fortunately I wasn't crazy about any of them - but I can't imagine letting go of one of my favorites (Flurry & Shep!) then finding out it was all for nothing!!

It's interesting that when a villager lived where my campsite is now, I couldn't build a bridge there. When the villager moved out, I built the bridge, then I built the campsite in the exact spot the villager's house was. So if you build the bridge first, you can put a house or PWP near it, but if you try to build the bridge after the house or PWP is already there it won't let you. It makes no sense!!!
