Hey guys, my 10th villager just moved in and I am ready to start laying down a path because I think they make the town feel so much more unique! I just don't know where to start! If any of you do lay down paths, where do you start? And do you plan it out ahead of time or kind of go along as you are laying them down? Thanks!

For me I figure out where I run most, different ways that I go through my town, and then I start laying down flowers around those areas, and then just fill them in with a path! I'm currently working on finishing my path even though I don't have any permanent villagers.

With my town I made a main path down the middle (starting at the train crossing) and branched off from there.

On my first day (last Tuesday haha) I started setting down what I call path placeholders. Where I wanted paths, I placed designs on the sides because I want a natural path.
__XooX_____
__XooX_____
__XooXXXXXX
__Xoooooooo
__Xoooooooo
__XXXXXXXXX

The diagram is a bit confusing haha. But X is the placeholder designs and o is the actual path I want to have.

I only have paths leading to my dreamies' houses and buildings like Town Hall, Train Station, Re-tail, etc. I only have a path leading to Gala's because 1) its on the way from the train station to Re-tail and 2) once she moves out, that's where I want to put my secondary character's house. If you have dreamies already, I suggest putting down paths leading to their houses but not the temporary villagers. But I guess only if you decide to have natural paths.

Paths are suppose to guide the players from point A to point B. So I lay down paths between buildings and pwps. So they can wander around my town w/o looking down at the map.

I started from the train station, and tried to plan out from there. I went to all the main buildings, my character's houses, bridges, ramps, and my permanent villagers' houses. I also put a path around the outside of the plaza (but not over the whole thing). I covered most of the cobblestone bc I don't like how it looks to have a path just stop and have cobblestone start, idk. I left the train station area uncovered except for the outside edges so that if I do a trade, people have someplace to put their stuff. (I realized that after the fact :P )

I put unique paths around each of my character's houses and put flowers inside (sort of like their own personal gardens). As for the villagers, I put paths coming vertically from their doorways so I could put flowers on the sides of their houses as their own mini gardens.

I made all the paths two squares wide since that's how wide the bridges are (BUT NOT THE ARCHWAY PWPS DON'T GET ME STARTED). One square is just too thin imo. Makes it hard to stay on if you're running or for visitors unfamiliar with your town.

I would say to try to have an idea in mind of where you want to put them, even if you don't plan exactly. Putting down paths over your entire town can be time consuming, lol. Especially if it's the type of path that has 10 different squares.

I started based on where my bridges were placed, and from there took mental notes of where I ran the most from those bridges.

I've just used flowers to set a path. Its still being worked on. I may just keep it to flowers. I can't settle on an actual path when looking for a qr code.

it can help to visit well laid out towns, too and see how they put their paths. and whether you enjoy visiting their town and it's easy to navigate. There have been towns I've liked the LOOK of the path, but then when I actually try to navigate, it's frustrating or easy to get lost, so I made sure not to do things that irritated me in my town, etc.

I just use paths to make the place look nice/authentic. I usually border paths with bushes trees or flowers, look at dream towns to get ideas.

I sort of winged it when I did mine. First I did a link from my house to the train station and Re-tail, and then from Re-Tail to the beach. Then I worked from the bridges to connect to that main part. After that, I made a network of villager houses (also including the town sq, town hall, police station etc). From that point I just sort of put branching paths that made sense (shorter routes, to and around PWPs, etc). I just sort of worked on it a little bit at a time each day until my whole town had paths that I was happy with.

If you want to take a look, my dream address is in my signature :P

considering that i want paths only in the focal areas of my town, i put paths going to resident houses, retail, cafe, town hall, and plaza. Also, to add on i like to put all my villagers in one area of the map.
If there are rocks in the way i just work my way around it.. just check my dream town and you'll see what i mean ^~^

I started from my house and just had it go all around town, to Retail, Trainstation and Main Street, Plaza, and both bridges.

i start around major buildings like retail, train station, and town hall. from there make the paths cross villager houses, only if it looks nice. it'll come naturally, don't worry. it will be easier if you think it out earlier which shouldn't be hard
