if you get a villager from a "in boxes" post, do you pick what villager they replace?

ive been looking to adopt some villagers but im worried they might kick out someone i don't want them to-- am i able to pick?

if i can't pick, is it considered disrespectful to try and reset so that the villager asks to kick someone else? I've been googling this question forever to no avail! would love the help to understand :'D

Adopting villagers from another island won't let you kick one of your own villagers. You have to already have an open plot for them to move in.

Forcing a move out only works for campers, with RNG campers choosing a villager to move out at random, and with Amiibo letting you choose.
