If a person you know from school/work came and sat down a restaurant, what'd you do?

I just imagined a scenario about it and I can already feel awkwardness. Yesterday, in ASDA (a superstore), I saw two people from my school and I felt really shy about saying hi, even though they said hi to me.

Then I thought, well, what if someone I knew from school sat down on a table near me in a restaurant? Because I wouldn't be able to escape from awkwardness because I'd be eating.

The thought of them watching you eat with your family, making weird gestures, etc... *shudders*
What would you do if this happened to you? Do you find it awkward enough when you see someone you know from school/work?

If I knew them I would be just like hi and wave and continue on with my life. If they were my friends I would probably engage in a conversation. And if I knew who they were but they don't know I exist, I obviously wouldn't do anything.

I usually just say hi after they say hi, and nothing else. It's polite to at least greet them back, and they probably feel just as awkward as you do, so don't worry about it. :)

I rather ignore... If he/she approaching me and hey hi thennnnnnnnn I will say hi...

I would usually ignore them but if I pass them walking or something id say what up.

It depends on who they are. If it's a friend I'd probably wave or say hi if we made eye contact. If it's someone I don't know well then just a smile is enough. I wouldn't find it awkward at all.

I work at a store where one of my teachers shops at weekly. You think she's gonna make small talk and ask how things are going? NOPE. SHE ASKS ME ABOUT SCHOOL WORK.

it really just depends on how you cope with situations like that, you don't sound like an idiot at all for not finding the situation awkward, and even if you DO find the situation awkward then you aren't an idiot. Just generally more shy people tend to find it hard to know what to do in scenarios like this... Including myself. It's happened on many occasions for me... Normally I will smile but carry on walking if it's someone I kind of know but kind of don't. If it is someone I DO know I'll say hello and just talk to them. But in a restaurant? ... Yeah, it has happened to me before. D: I didn't really say hello or smile at them or anything, considering I barely knew them, plus I was with my friend and they were with their family so... :c But yeah generally I hate situations like this because I never know if I should say hi or not. ;; I don't want to seem rude by NOT saying hello, but I don't want them to think I'm weird I suppose... /).(\

I'll just pass by them and say Hi and that's it. Nothing else than only saying Hi if a person from my school was in a place that I'm going to.

If I saw one of my friends/acquaintances, I would try to embarrass them as much as possible by yelling a greeting to them and acting super obnoxious and dorky. My friends are all quite chill so they'd probably laugh. They would expect nothing less from me.

Lol, I can imagine it now:

Hey, I'm going to sit here and watch you and your family eat dinner, and then I'm going to laugh at you guys for eating dinner even though everyone does it.
XD

I'm weird about eating in public to begin with, so I get really nervous and awkward. If it's a friend I don't mind so much, but if it's someone I only sort of know I try to avoid eye contact and leave as soon as I can :/
