Ideas for a party?

Hi! My friend's birthday is coming up very soon, and I'm going to get him to come on New Leaf along with 2 of our other friends to my town and celebrate it. I'm gonna get him an in-game present, and wrap it 'n' stuff.

But, what do people think I should get in my town to make a good party? I already thought of cake and stuff, but what else? Gimme some ideas!

Do you use paths in your town? You could swap them for the day with something really bright and festive

Or place tiles around town that say happy birthday and such?
