So tomorrow I'm going to the gamnig store. I'm torn between spending my money and getting the New Nintendo 3ds that can read amiibos, or just get the amiibo reader. There's a chance my dad won't let me get the 3ds but that's off topic.

What should I do? I feel so out of the loop without an amiibo reader. I don't mind my old 3ds but I also wanna update and get the new one.

If money is an issue I would suggest just getting the Amiibo reader because it's only like $20. I currently have an old 3ds XL so I just use that

I'd definitely second idfldnsndt's comment. An NFC reader is much more economical, and with it, you can get several amiibo for the same price as an entirely new system. If your 3DS is doing just fine, maybe hold off until the prices for the new 3DS eventually drop?

Money isn't an issue at all for my family right now, but my mom is hella paranoid for some reason that we're gonna go broke.

I have the old 3DS XL (specifically the Pokemon X/Y one, so I think it's about three years old now). I bought the Happy Home Designer bundle that came with the Amiibo reader for just under $25 from Walmart. I'm very happy with it.

I know I personally didn't want to upgrade my 3DS because I actually held off on buying a 3DS for a while since I really wanted an X/Y themed one. I'm not sure if that's something that applies to you, but your attachment to your current system might be one reason to keep it and just get the Amiibo reader. The reader is also much cheaper.

I know the New 3DS is supposed to be faster and better at processing, but I really don't think that's an issue with Animal Crossing and Pokemon games. Now, if you're playing something like Super Smash Bros. or Monster Hunter, you might want to look into the New 3DS. I think for those games, a faster system is important (especially if you play SSB competitively!). If these things don't apply to you, stick with your current system. I think we're also far enough into the 3DS's lifespan where a completely new system might be coming out soon enough that it might be a waste to purchase a New 3DS.

A final option might be to hold off until B lack Friday/Cyber Monday. Pretty much every gaming system will go on sale that weekend. You might have a better chance of convincing your dad to let you get the New 3DS if it's on sale. I personally think that the best option is just buying the Amiibo reader if you already have the New 3DS, but in the end, the final decision is up to you. I hope this helped!

Thanks for all the replies - my dad came home tonight with the new 3ds! I was so surprised, ahah! Thanks guys <3
