Sometimes life sucks really bad. Sometimes crap happens. I'm assuming You're a teenager, like I am, so I'm assuming that I'll understand. I've had some pretty bad crap happen to me over the past year. A girl I liked pratically ruined my summer, I'm afraid to sign up for a particular class because I want to avoid her. My aunt died, and my grandmother was and still is hospitalizied. So I've probably been depressed much of the past year. Does that make me emo/goth? maybe. Does it really matter? No. In ten years, We'll all look back on the crap that happened during this period of time, and think, "why did I make such a big deal out of that?". So just try not to worry.
Being sad all the time doesnt mean you are goth. Instead of worrying about what to label yourself so you can try to find your own identity, label yourself as, you. Don't get wrapped up in all the "he's goth, he's punk, she's a skater he's a thug." It really all doesnt matter. Labels eventually will disappear, and when they do you will be even more lost.
Leslie, just because you 'think' you're goth dosen't mean you are. Don't label yourself. If you're going through a tough time just remember to try to just stay optimistic and not call yourself goth. That usually makes it worse, sometimes people just want to fit into the label and do things that they shouldn't do to keep their 'goth' image and make it worse. If your friend hits you when she gets mad, she's not a good friend. If your sister won't accept you if you are goth, than what kind of sister is she? Being goth is no big deal, in the end it's just a label. But being sad all the time is a big deal, it could be a symptom of other illnesses. Just try to think positive, and remember: "Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind."
You need to figure out why your sad, because first of all Gothic people aren't really depressed, that's Emos and Emos usually have a reason to be sad, if your sad for no reason your just Depressed and they have pills for that.
In these times of our lives, the best thing to do is search within yourself instead of letting others label you and you label yourself. If you allow that, you will lose yourself in the process. Just make it simple: evaluate your feelings and yourself, and go from there. Try not to ignore the way you feel, and at the same time, don't let your feelings control you. Take it one day at a time and know that the grass is always greener on the other side. =D
