The same has happened to me.
Everything in the hardware was deleted and I couldn't open any programs (like gimp or limewire).

I use AVG, NOD32, Norton, Spybot, CCleaner, and Malwarefree. xD I think I'm covered.

I use Avast Free on my Windows PC, it covers all those.

Having more than one anti-virus can actually conflict and cause problems.

Well some "good" news.... All I might need to fix my computer is a windows XP recovery disc, we need to go to the store and get one that's right for my compaq model....
