I just want this ONE project!

I am doing everything right, from the diving trick to keeping flowers in my pockets. But I’ve been struggling to get public works projects out of my uchi villager, Plucky. I am looking for the wisteria trellis (an uchi project) and so far I got a picnic blanket from her and two other projects from my cranky, Walt. Even then, I usually get one project a day, and sometimes I’ll go through periods of getting pings from my other villagers and not Plucky — even when I do it at the prime uchi hours of 1am-3am.

It’s so frustrating because I literally only need the wisteria trellis. I’ve even tried boxing her in with holes but that somehow resulted in ZERO pings from her. Plucky is stubborn but I am more so, since I’m still at the grind. I’ve been trying on and off for hours at a time for the past few days.

Have you guys also had trouble getting public works projects over the years? Do you have any tips, or is this process truly randomized?

I remember I stopped playing NL because for about 3 months not one of my villagers offered a public works. I was pulling my hair out trying to get them but I didn't read any guides and was just trying what I thought would work.

In all my time playing new leaf I never actually did the diving trick to get PWPs... although I was a massive time traveller so it just felt like the villagers were giving me project requests daily and somehow filled it all up before I even planned on using them. It's definitely frustrating though. I remember the zen bridge was the last bridge I was missing and I was just waiting around forever for it because I couldn't be bothered to grind for it with the diving trick.

I’m in a rut right now with my villagers and PWPs. Sometimes instead of diving, I just have my mayor sit in the house while in reality I walk off and do other things but you also run the risk of getting a visiting villager. This worked more so in the beginning of the game but yesterday I finally got the first request in weeks. It’s a balloon arch which I probably won’t build BUT it’s the thought that counts I guess.

You could try boxing in two villagers at a time! I was trying to get zen PWP requests from my cranky villager, but I had the same thing, where he wouldn't ping me even with the diving trick. My uchi villager was walking around near him and kept pinging me instead, so I boxed her in away from him so she would stop pinging me. But, whenever the cranky villager refused to ping me, I went up to her instead so I wouldn't waste a round of diving. Boom! Wisteria trellis. It took an hour or two, and I did it sometime around 11pm I believe. Now if I'm doing the diving trick I try to have a backup boxed villager so that I can get a ping even if the primary boxed villager doesn't ping. Also, I try to keep all the other villagers away from the primary boxed villager (with holes).

I totally understand your frustration. I remember also having to wait for what felt like forever to get the wisteria trellis. I never bothered to do the diving trick, though. I would just go about my business doing my dailies. I could almost guarantee one ping when I first logged into the game and one ping when I came back into town after doing my Main Street stuff, so I would try to seek out the right villagers at those moments.

I also felt like the PWP requests came in waves. I might get a few back to back over the course of a few days, but then I would hit a drought where they only pinged me for other stuff. I seemed to have good luck when I was building PWPs regularly. I would sometimes get a ping right after the ceremony for a new PWP. But then you can't really control what villager pings you.

Sorry I don't have much advice but I did get my wisteria trellis eventually. I'm sure you'll get yours too.

I don't think i've ever gotten the wisteria trellis in my like 500 hours of playing new leaf lmao. I always wanted it but I also never actively tried to get it.

Walt will have to be my backup villager, as his and Plucky’s schedules are the same. Since they are night owls I can guarantee pings from either him or Plucky!

Only thing is, my town is covered in flowers so I may have to sacrifice some in the digging of holes, lol. Hopefully it’ll be worth it!

I've unlocked every PWP except the scarecrow and the Wisteria Trellis. I recently got Muffy to move into my town and have yet to really work on getting her to ping me for requests yet.

Rather than diving around, I would go to a corner of the map usually by the campsite which is in a corner with a camping cot that I built and I would just lay down for 5 minutes then head back to the village area and find the villager I want to ping me for requests.

Another method was to save and quit after one of your villager pings you. I always empty my bells and stuff my pockets with seashells when I go on the hunt for PWP request as the request options villagers will give you will be limited and in return much easier to get a PWP request. I mostly get PWP request in the morning between 10am - 12pm.

It's definitely much easier if the villager lives near your house because Olaf (my immediate neighbour) never fails to ping me when he sees me leave my house and I would have to save and quit and restart over

wisteria trellis was also the last pwp i needed and got for me too!
i find that trapping the villagers with holes around them when doing the diving trick just makes them not ping you. just let them roam free, and then try to make them see you first after coming back from swimming!

Hmmm, that’s actually what I found when I first tried the hole trick. But if I don’t do it, it’s nearly impossible to find Plucky! Do I just make her space within the holes really big? I just don’t know.

yeah, it just seems like extra work, but whenever i trapped hazel with holes while doing the diving trick, it never worked. only when i let her roam free she's ping me, eventually with PWPs. it's honestly kind of fun just trying to creep around your town to find that one villager that would request the PWP you need. put your volume on the highest and listen for villager footsteps approaching, hide behind trees and bushes etc XD
