I just got Animal Crossing (laaaaaaaaate to the party) and it won't work?

My boyfriend gave me his old Animal Crossing game tonight and told me that even though I don't have a GameCube (I didn't want to take his because I don't know how to hook it up; I never had a GameCube, lol...) that I could still play it on my Wii. I was pretty stoked since I've never had the luxury of playing any other AC games before. I popped the disc in and got the loading title screen, but that's as far as I got. I never got a prompt to push a button to start or anything. I played the game at his house on his 'cube and it worked fine; his old town is still saved and I loaded it up without any issues. Is it just not compatible with my Wii...? He said it might be just because the game is old, but I don't know. I'm not getting any errors or anything; just curious and a teensy bit disappointed, lol.

Any ideas?

It's probably your Wii lens not working correctly, and I had that same problem.
Try buying lens cleaners for the Wii somewhere, or look up on how to fix the lens.
