I just found out we can only craft the festive set from 15 December :/

After Halloween I'll be eagerly anticipating Christmas so I looked up when I would get to decorate my town, and we can only start getting DIYs on the 15th! I don't know about anyone else but I always decorate starting from the first day of December so I really expected it to be available then. How come we have a whole month for Halloween but only half a month for Christmas?

So I think for the first time ever I'm going to time travel until I at least get the Christmas tree DIY. What do you guys think? Did you expect it to be earlier or am I just being dramatic

But how do you know this? The Christmas update hasn't dropped yet, right? So maybe we can buy the furniture from Nook's starting december 1st? I think that's how it went in NL and when christmas day came around you could get the final pieces to complete the collection... but it's been so long since I played that event that I can't really remember!

I just read that on all the websites that list out the festive set! But I hope you're right about the Nooklings having the furniture, I think it would be super weird if they didn't. But then the DIYs will seem a little pointless when you've had a whole 15 days to just buy them lol

It's rarer because as of now, the only way to receive it is to time travel into mid-December, when the trees are decorated, because it's the only 'seasonal' set that syncs up for the two hemispheres.
Perhaps the update with Jingle could bring a different way to receive them!
(If Franklin comes around with another set for mid-November, and the NH folks are left to fend for themselves with old-fashioned RNG for four! sets overlapping, I personally won't have my hopes up too much. )

@Starboard, as someone who went to mid-December back in June for 'just the trees', it's a lot of shore-waiting and hoping for RNG to be super nice to you.
It's possible, but if you're thinking of TTing when it's IRL early December, you may as well wait the two weeks for sanity's sake.
If there's no change to the way the Festive set spawns by then, I have a lot of duplicate recipes sitting around and a stockpile of ornaments. Or, I can craft you any of the four festive trees in any quantity!

(Hey, waiting's fine, too. I'm even waiting to learn the non-tree recipes I've set aside, because thanks RNG for giving me everything BUT festive tree recipes at first.)

Of course, that makes sense! Is it the same set as the normal Christmas set? Or was it missing items?

By 'normal Christmas set', you mean the Jingle series from New Leaf?
It's gone the way of the Spooky/Creepy set, and it's been replaced by various other festive items.
The Jingle Wall made a return, though! It's literally the only 'old' festive item!
There's some 'outdoor' light-up furniture, three different Christmas tree sizes, a wreath, a few tabletop items, and a wall item! It's not a lot but it's pretty nice, especially when put with coordinating furniture!
(I'm a fool for all the festive trees. I went a little overboard making them but their customisation options are )

Edit: I counted and it's 12 items, including the wall. For reference, NH's Spooky set has 17, including the items only available during the actual event.

Yeah, while I understand we're lacking a huge chunk of New Leaf's furniture sets, I'm not exactly missing the 'classic' GC-era holiday sets. I've been enjoying how versatile New Horizons is with their holiday items so far! You're not shoehorned into one specific aesthetic anymore with them!
(unless we're talking Bunny Day. It's very...eggs-uberant. )

I'm not bothered waiting that long. I mean, I love Christmas and like you, I start decorating in 'real life' on December 1, but 2 weeks to celebrate in game is alright.

I went all out for the halloween stuff when it came October 1, but the excitement has already died down for me. My town is decorated, I have all the pumpkins and candy I need, I have seasonal clothing, etc. For the last 2 weeks of this month, I'm more just waiting for halloween day to arrive to have further holiday celebrating to do. So I actually dont mind starting Christmas on the 15th! It may keep me more busy those full 10 days

I hope that there will be an update closer to December that will let us start getting DIY recipes and everything for the holiday items. Because like you, I definitely want to start decorating my island way earlier than the 15th!!! My island has been decked out for Halloween for a good two weeks now. It is my favorite holiday.. but like... I don't want the mushroom set stuff (because I'll definitely have to replace my Spooky things with those!) to be out into mid December. That's just weird.

Thanks for the replies, if worse comes to worst I guess I can just wait the 2 weeks. I was thinking of living in mid-December for a while until I got some stuff but that might just drive me crazy with impatience since I feel wrong being in the wrong date Also @zumhaus thanks for the offer but I don't have NSO! Hopefully the store will offer stuff but I guess waiting isn't the end of the world.

Ninji had found in the code something called CCane which a lot of people are speculating is Candy Cane so I wonder if we’ll be able to use can canes to craft new holiday DIYs. It could also just be a new prop for villagers to hold though.

I don’t think I have all of the Christmas items, but I did get all of the Christmas items available as of now (especially the illuminated set). And even though I am done with crafting them, I still have 90 of each ornaments.

I think in November the thanksgiving update will drop! We don’t have any information about that yet but I’m assuming we’ll get more items after Halloween. I’m not sure what it will be but I’m thinking it will be food related. We’re still missing so many food items from the older games!
That being said, I’d love to decorate my island festive before December 15th too. But I can imagine there will be another update in the beginning of December, bringing back jingle. Maybe that’ll bring new items as well?

I was so excited for the festive DIYs, that's kind of disappointing. If they don't make them available to buy at Nooks like the Halloween stuff I think I'll be tting to get the DIYs closer to the first of December. That is kind of a pain, though! Hopefully they'll release an Xmas update and will gave some other stuff to go with it. I need that festive tree asap!

I wasn't really planning on going all around with Christmas decorations, but I definitely wanted a Christmas Tree or near at my Resident Services Plaza. I'd like it for the beginning of the month, but if not, then I'll pretend to do some Tree Revealing Ceremony or something.

i think there will probably be another update which introduces more jingle related furniture and DIYs but that's purely my opinion. given the fact that Jingle was at the end of the Halloween update video I'm thinking there will be more to the Christmas season than the festive set that's out rn.
