Alright, President Obama doesn't he want to change? The main thing I wrote about this topic is that why did he say he wanted to extend our school days. Isn't that really dumb to do? Some countries they do like France as a example they have Sunday off but they have Monday - Saturday for school. But what I don't understand if Obama had a summer, his wife had a summer, and his children had a summer why would he extend our school? Looks like he wants to go back to the nine weeks in school and three weeks off. I actually went to a few schools in Arizona which had this but this was awhile back ago probably back in the early 90''s. I just completely don't understand why he would do this, I mean education is very good for a kid at a early age and I know that but this is just kind of dumb.

What do you think? Is this a good or bad? You decide!

Well 75% of kids in America do drop out in 10th grade and never go to college. That is most of the kids.

America is dumb in Jake's terms.

Meh, If he makes it longer we can't stop him.

That means millions of kids going to work terrible factory jobs and not being able to support the families that they will start by not realizing how much it will cost them, then they go to the government for money, and that causes us to lose $$$

American kids are falling way, way behind eastern Asian and european countries. We need more education. Kids can complain, but it works out to be in their best interest later on in life.

It's because they're stupid and have no motivation in life. Abusive parents and KFC, never a good combination. If they want to fail, let them. Don't punish those who are working their asses off.

I work hard in school too, and I agree with you. Sometimes it is a drag having screw offs slow you down. But, these screw offs are going to be our coworkers, colleagues, and citizens of our country in a few years. We need an entire country of intelligent and motivated people. If we let them fail, we are ultimately setting up our own failure.

In my opinion, the more they put us in school, the more kids will want to drop out.

I think completing High school should be mandatory. People get so close, and then quit with only a year to their diploma.

We've already been setup for failure though. They're throwing it upon us to fix their spending problem later on down the road. If they can't fix it, what makes them think we can?

If they don't want to, nay, REFUSE to complete school, or give it their all, it's not our fault. If they have NO motivation and don't want to be in school enough as is, then why should they have to go longer and make us suffer? The main difference between Private school and Public school is that Public school is free, so the parents have no reason to push their kids, unless they generally care about them (which some don't, or can't). Some parents see public school as a free daycare. If they fail out of one Public school, they can go to another. The reason why Private school gives more motivation is because the parents are paying thousands of dollars each year to keep their kids in school. So if the kid flunks out, then the parents just lost a lot of money.

More motivation -> Less need to stay in school longer.
Less motivation -> No need to stay in school longer because they don't have to.

There's really no win situation with this.
