I've never done a trade or visit with anyone from the internet before, only people I know in real life and for some reason I'm super paranoid about it even though I know 98% of people on here are honest and won't scam me or anything :/

I just worry way, way too much >_>

Nearly everyone that I have come across here have been very honest and friendly. I've only ever had one problem and it wasn't even that big of a deal. Just be a little careful and you can meet some really great people.

Worse comes to worse, turn off your wifi. It'll set any damage back to normal if you haven't saved.

But keep an eye on the wifi rating, it's there for a reason. I haven't had a bad experience with users here yet.

true, I actually hadn't thought of shutting off the wifi. that's a little comforting since I could always undo anything hahah

You can turn off wifi if you have the old 3ds. The new one doesn't have a switch. Personally I've only had one bad visitor and I just ended session to kick them out.

i just recently started doing trades and i've always had a great experience with the ppl i've had make deliveries/done pick ups from. i make sure to check their wifi rating and also i tend to stick to ppl who have stores that have been going on for a while as well/i've seen the user post frequently.

I know what you mean about worrying about it. That's why I haven't tried to give my fc out to people on the island if they ask about it. Stranger danger. Ha, jk.

But, I'm assuming people on forums are more serious about it, and you can check ratings.

That's why I'll only use my 3DS systems with that switch when I'm hosting, I'm not using the 2DS or New 3DS systems, because I want to be able to hit that switch. That said, I've had to hit it a few times, especially when people see the money trees and are like- FREE MONEY!! They shake it, take the bags of money (without asking too), and it's like do you know what it took to get those? I had to have the Emporium after 2 months of play buying all those items to get them to expand (as well as passing those Gracie checks) to get the 50 bags of fertilizer to get the gold shovel to bury bags of money to wait for them to "grow" the money fruit, and within 2 seconds you stole it from me! Let the person know though before you open your gates what the rules are, and if they break them, flip the switch- if you're using a 2DS or New 3DS system, you'll have to use the power button, but that causes problems too, like Resetti, and I've heard it said that can corrupt your save data. I don't know how true that is, so I don't even risk it, and use the regular old 3DS/XL.

Check the user's ratings before trading. And if you do get scammed (I dont think you will) just disconnect from the internet

In my old town I got robbed a few times, but I had so many people in and out of my town and those days, I had no idea who it was, I only ever caught one person trying to steal and I gave them a negitive wifi rating (they're inactive now) and I am also suuuuuper parionoid when it comes to trading no matter what. If I go to someones town I'm afraid they'll think I stole something or think i'm suspicuous and if I trade at my town I follow them like a damn hawk.

I only trust people that I've traded with mutliple times (which there isn't a lot only toadsworthy and a few others)

I'm always feeling bad when people come to my town because like i said, i follow them everywhere and I'm afraid they'll think that i'm parinoid (which i am) and don't trust them. Whenever I go to to someones town and then leave and I get a wifi rating I'm aways afraid it will be negative even thought I didnt do anything wrong. I never want a wifi rating under 100%. Sometimes I make plans to trade and then my wifi goes out or I have to go to the store and something comes up that I need to do. I've seen people get bad wifi rating for not showing up and not asnwering time sensitiv pms and I'm afraid I'll get one too one for these days

TBT is definitely a really good place to trade, and I've met some amazing people on here and through AC in general We're all lovely, really If you're worried about making conversation though, don't. It's perfectly normal/acceptable to literally trade an item and then end the session!

I'd feel awkward like not knowing what to message so it's nice that it wouldn't be seen as rude to just end the session. I'm sure sooner or later I'll work up the courage to do a trade lol

My worst fear while trading with someone is that they might think I'm doing something but I'm not. Like, I'm a very akward person in general, so I don't want make people feel like I'm trying to steal something. (I'd never steal and never have) Like one time, someone told me that my item was to the left. I literally just kept going right because I have left right hand confusion (it's a thing, look it up) and I was so afraid that they would think I'm stealing (shoutout to the person I did this to if you're reading!). But in reality, I'm just an akward person with irrational fears. Long story short, most on here are nice and some are super afraid to offend their guests/hosts! (Aka yours truly) I'm sure online trading will work out fine for you.

Only time ive had scammers was on another forum site (GF ~ that other site...) and from the island. If you cant shut off wifi save before you open gates, then if something bad happens press power button :3
Hope you never get scammed, it sucks but its fixable if it happens ^>^

yep, if you end the session or flip your wifi switch it should kick them out. on the 2DS and new 3DS there's no wifi switch so you have to power off or just end the session
