I grew a blue rose by accident. How rare are they meant to be?

I know in New Leaf, they were pretty rare. I never actually managed to breed one.

I'm not sure if anyone knows what the chances of it spawning are in New Horizons or not, but I seem to remember seeing a video floating around where someone in AC:NH had to breed flowers in 9 different steps to make sure they had the right genes, etc?

I've attached a screenshot below of where it spawned; it rained in my town yesterday and these two orange roses would have cross-bred.

Did I just get really lucky or do you think they could just spawn from orange x orange roses?

That 9 step video you mention is probably the one I was trying to follow. My purple flowers kept failing tests so now I'm consider I either A screwed up or B the update changed genes somehow. They mentioned that the "perfect reds" are generally a 1/64 chance so who knows with the other combination options (because there are plenty it seems). I have a feeling you got really lucky with your oranges but also now I'm tempted to just stick all mine together in a field and hope. Nothing else has worked.

Oh yeah, I remember there was a testing step in the video and that there was a 1/64 chance. I was going to follow it once I had a large enough space on my island to facilitate all the steps. But I suppose without knowing all the possible combinations, having them all together and hoping for the best could work anyway.

Come to think of it, yes they were! I got them from an island covered with pink and orange roses.

That fact that you got them on the hybrid island explains everything - Orange roses from that island have a 6.25% chance of spawning Blue roses. I.e.: They are 'hybrid oranges'.
