I don't think I'm doing this right.

I just got New Leaf (late to the party, I know) and since I was so late getting it I found out all kinds of information online. Different types of town layouts, all the villagers, etc. I've been restarting the game nonstop for 3 days trying to get a good layout, 5 decent starting villagers, and a particular native fruit. I realize how absolutely ridiculous this is, considering the sheer number of variables at play here, but I just can't seem to be satisfied with no matter how many times I restart. I just want to play this game but it bothers me if the town isn't perfect because I have video game micromanagement issues. I know that you aren't supposed to play like this, but it's driving me insane! How can you possibly carry on with your sub-par villagers and annoying town layouts when you just KNOW that your dreamies and perfect town layout are just no more than a lucky random outcome away?

Just know that you can't have the PERFECT layout, starters, fruit, grass, etc. You're going to have to compromise. This game wasn't made to be easy. You have to put time, effort, and determination to make your town perfect in your eyes.

Never understood the appeal of 'dreamies'... they're just hard-coded AI with pre-made speach. The real fun is customizing your town, living with what you get and making the best of it. If you worry about getting dreamies, then you'll ruin your experience. Once you get your dreamies, then what...? What do you do then? What's left if all you could think about was the perfect layout, the perfect village?

Remember that you can always obtain dreamies from other towns. As for details, I got the game June 9th, so I only picked from tge 4 or 5 I was given with little to no knowledge.

There's too many variables in this game for a "perfect" one. Grass type, native fruit, layout, villager house placement, Retail... There's no point in trying to try for a perfect one because you could be rolling for weeks and never get it.
The game is more about working with what you have. Try just setting 1 or 2 goals you want for your town, then work with whatever else the game gives you :)

Native fruit? Are you not eventually going to have all fruit growing in your town anyway?
If you're that much of a perfectionist, Isabelle is going to be your worst nightmare.

Just play, there is no such thing as a "perfect" town. Just look at the reset thread here. It's full of people who had previously spent countless hours to find a perfect town, to get their dreamies... and yet they still want to reset.

Just play!

Just only go for the perfect layout, and fruit, you can get the villagers through the campsite anyways.
And the grass type isn?t that important imo at least.

Yeah, don't worry too much about good starters. Just get, at most, one villager you like and just try to adopt the other ones you'd like. Who knows, maybe you'll warm up to some of your starters too.

Also take your time. I don't think this game was meant to be played all in a rush to hurryupandgetitalldoneNOW!!!

Slow down, play for awhile, then set the game aside and go do something else.

It's a game. It should be fun. If it is stressing you out terribly and it's not fun, what is the point?

Don't worry so much about the perfect town. Choose a layout, then stick with it, work with it and deal with it. It will be fine.

Maybe this will be helpful. There is a map on page 2, post #16 that shows all of the different layouts. Maybe if you can see ahead of time what some of the choices are it will help? I'd choose several that would acceptable, not just one that is perfect. Otherwise you might still be resetting next month trying to get that one particular layout.

Also people on that thread talk about what they look for in a layout. There are a variety of answers. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. Shrugs.

I restarted for three weeks, three or four hours daily, just for the map and went with the villagers I got then. I have the perfect map now and all villagers I want can move in from somewhere else. Just concentrate on the map. I understand fully well the wish for your dream map and won't discourage you from getting it. There's nothing "wrong" with the way you do things; it's your (and my) way of playing the game. You just need a lot of patience if you want your perfect map. But others are right; fruits can be gotten from other players as well, so these shouldn't be that great of a priority.

I understand fruit, because if you want a specific perfect fruit, then you need that one to be your starter. I was unhappy with my old town, Solaceon, and one of the reasons was because I got peaches as my fruit when I really wanted apples. I would say, though, focus on getting your map and fruit first and foremost... Don't worry as much about the villagers, since you can always adopt villagers from elsewhere. :)

You can't ever have a pre-made perfect town.. you have to make it perfect by getting the villagers you want, planting all the fruit, using plants, bushes, paths and PWPs to make it yours..
I never get why people are so bothered.. The only thing I cared about was having only 1 pond.

I didn't ever restart, but I'm pretty happy with how my village is. There's a very, very small chance you'd get a perfect town, and it would probably take ages to get that, so it's not really a good use of time trying. I'd say get a layout you like and a fruit you like, and villagers you know you can tolerate. The villagers you want you can just get over forums or from friends, so I wouldn't put so much stress onto that part. Good luck!
